Lebron James’ contract situation with the Lakers: salary, years left...
What’s LeBron James’ Contract Status with the Los Angeles Lakers: what’s his salary and remaining years?
The Los Angeles Lakers basketball player LeBron James officially prolonged his association with the team in September last year.
The 37-year-old forward was supposed to be an integral part of the Los Angeles franchise until the culmination of the 2024-25 season.
Contract details
James has agreed to a lucrative two-year extension in exchange for a substantial sum of $97.1 million. The terms of the deal also include a player option for the 2024-25 season, effectively extending his contract for an additional guaranteed year. Under his original agreement, James was slated to earn $44.5 million in the final year.
Notably, the extension does not grant LBJ eligibility for a no-trade clause, which can only be included in new contracts rather than extensions. Consequently, if the Lakers decide to trade him to another team, his salary would increase by 15 percent.
This contract extension has elevated the four-time NBA MVP to the status of the highest-earning NBA player in history, with an impressive career earnings total of $532 million.
James also mentioned in some interviews he might explore the possibility of free agency when his son Bronny becomes eligible for the NBA draft. Earlier this year, he expressed his desire to spend the last year of his illustrious career playing for whichever team his son joins.
Lebron’s retirement talks
Following the Los Angeles Lakers’ unfortunate sweep in the Western Conference Finals at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, LeBron James is contemplating the possibility of retirement.
The decision appears to weigh heavily on his mind as he contemplates his future in basketball. During his post-game press conference, James openly acknowledged the weight of this decision, stating, “I have a lot to think about... on a personal level, as I move forward with my basketball career, I have a lot to think about.”
Given the gravity of this decision, it is anticipated that James will take his time and carefully deliberate before arriving at a final verdict regarding his participation in what could potentially be his 21st season in the NBA.
