LeBron James enters uncharted NBA territory – and now eyes Celtics legend
The King opens his 23rd season after weeks sidelined with sciatic pain, setting yet another milestone in his unprecedented NBA career.

LeBron James has carved out a historic milestone in the NBA, officially becoming the first player in league history to remain active for 23 seasons. His season debut was delayed after he stepped away from basketball activities due to sciatic discomfort that began in late September – pain that runs from the glutes down the back of the legs.

How many NBA games has LeBron James played in?
At 40, the King made his season debut against the Utah Jazz at Crypto Arena, marking the 1,563rd regular-season game of his career. He is now chasing the record held by Robert Parish, the Boston Celtics icon who played 21 seasons and appeared in 1,611 games. James can surpass Parish by playing 49 more games, a mark he could realistically hit this season.
Before this year, James shared the record for most seasons played with Vince Carter, who retired in 2020 at age 43.
Current records held by James include the most regular-season points with 42,184; the most minutes played with 59,041; the most All-Star selections with 21; the most All-NBA selections with 21; and he is the first player to reach 10,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 assists.
