LeBron James was only able to take part in the first half of Sunday night’s NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City. The Lakers’ star had captained his team to victory in the previous five editions of the event but that run came to an end as Team LeBron ended losing 184-175 to Team Giannis.

LeBron clocked 14:24 minutes on court at Vivint Smart Home Arena, scoring 13 points on 6-of-11 from beyond the paint plus four assists in his record 19th All-Star appearance. But the captain failed to appear at all in the second half of the game. He was seen to catch his fingers on the rim while trying to block a Pascal Siakam layup in the second quarter. The NBA announced during the interval that LeBron had suffered a contusion to his right hand.

However, after having his injured hand assessed, LeBron was able to take questions in the post-game press conference when he gave an update on his status. “Well, Coach Malone is a defensive-minded coach, I had him in my early days in Cleveland; and I told him I would get one stop tonight for him. I tried to get one little chasedown block and got my finger caught in the rim, but I’ll be fine. I don’t think it’s not too much to worry about. For precautionary reasons, I just had to take the rest of the night off.”

How long could LeBron be out?

That’s positive news for the Lakers, who faced the Warriors on Thursday. Los Angeles have yet to publish an injury report on LeBron’s status although in most cases, minor hand injuries such as the one LeBron suffered in the All-Star game, usually take between five and seven days to heal, which means he might be ruled out of the Warriors game.
