LeBron James, now 41 and in his 23rd NBA season, continues to defy age. With nearly 1,600 career games under his belt, he’s still averaging 22.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game. In 2026 alone, his numbers rise to 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per contest. Even in the supposed twilight of his career, LeBron remains superior to 90% of players in the league, cementing his case as the greatest of all time while consistently delivering historic moments as the NBA’s oldest active star.

LeBron focuses on basketball, not gossip

LeBron has long taken things in stride, and recent reports have only reinforced his low tolerance for distractions. An ESPN article by Baxter Holmes detailed internal conflicts among the heirs of the legendary Dr. Jerry Buss, the Lakers owner who turned the franchise into a global sports icon. Some leaks suggested that Jeanie Buss, who now leads the team, wanted to limit LeBron’s involvement in certain matters and was uncomfortable with him at times.

Those rumors resurfaced after the Lakers’ 112-104 loss to the Clippers on Thursday, a game in which LeBron posted 23 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.

“Quite frankly, I don’t care”

“Quite frankly, I don’t really care about the reporters, to be honest,” LeBron said in response to the claims. “At the end of the day. when I came to this organization, my whole mindset was about restoring excellence. And I was able to do that with 16 other guys, winning a championship here. I don’t really care about articles. I don’t care about stories. I don’t care how somebody feels about me. If you know me personally, then you know what I’m about."

Those comments highlight that LeBron isn’t engaging in gossip or drama. He’s focused on the present season and on what comes next for him and the Lakers.

LeBron coy on Lakers future

LeBron has said he maintains a good relationship with Jeanie. His contract expires at the end of the season, and he finds himself caught between factions both supporting and questioning the Lakers president. Once again, LeBron remained cryptic about his future and has not revealed whether he plans to finish the season with the Lakers. Meanwhile, other reports suggest the Golden State Warriors may pursue him this summer in a move that would shock many fans.

What remains to be seen is whether LeBron will make the All-Star Game (he’s not a starter for the first time in 21 years), how the Lakers will finish the season (currently sixth in the Western Conference with a 26-17 record), and, most importantly, when the legendary player will finally retire. That day will inevitably come.
