Los Angeles Lakers 106vs 121 Golden State Warriors summary: stats and highlights | NBA Game 5

The Golden State Warriors are still the defending champions of the NBA after fending off elimination in Game 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers. Steph Curry carried his team to victory scoring 27 points in the 121-106 win on Wednesday night.

Dynamic Draymond

After losing both games in LA, the Warriors came into the night with their backs against the wall, and showed how a championship team responds in an elimination game.

Draymond Green set the tone early on, being aggressive on the offensive end and “adding another dynamic” to the offense according to Curry in a postgame interview. He had eight quick points in the first few minutes of the game to get the Chase Center on it’s feet from tip off.

The Warriors hit seven threes in the first 12 minutes of the game, but Anthony Davis had another fantastic start to the game before having to get wheel chaired to the locker room after getting hit in the face in the fourth quarter.

Vintage Wiggins performance

The Lakers stuck with the Warriors for the first quarter and a half of the game, but a 16-5 run led by Andrew Wiggins and Steph Curry stretched the Golden State lead to double digits before the break and they would keep that cushion until the finish line.

A 9-2 run to start the second half put the Warriors in command by a game high 18 points, and they cruised to victory from there.

Curry followed up his 31 point triple double with 27 and 8 assists and he got plenty of help from his supporting cast.  Wiggins looked like the Wiggins from last year’s title run finishing the game with 25, 7 and 5 assists and Green ended the night with 20 and 10.

LeBron and Davis both had solid games, but it’s been the role players that have stepped up for LA and led the Lakers to victory this postseason. That wasn't the case on Wednesday night. D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves chipped in 15 a piece but it wasn’t enough to cut into the Warriors comfortable second half lead.

The closest the Lakers got was nine points midway through the fourth quarter, but Curry and company finished off the job at home and now will look to get a road win in Game 6 to keep their season, their title defense and their dynasty alive.

Curry ended the game with 27 points on 12-24 shooting and the Warriors live to fight another day. 

The reigning champs are not going to go down without a fight. They took care of buisness at home and now it's their turn to go on the road and try to keep the series alive. 

Curry scored 9 in the fourth, and 7 straight at a critical juncture where it looked like the Lakers make one last surge. 

Draymond set the tone early and kept the intensity up on the offensive end. He ended the night with 20 and 10. 

Andrew Wiggins had one of those games that he had in last year's title run. He is instrumental for the Warriors to succeed, and with their backs against the wall, Wiggins delievered. 

Payton II has done a couple things brilliantly, one of those things is defend, the other one is get easy buckets around the iron. 

The Warriors ended the half on a 16-5 run and that would be the killer blow that gave them a cushion they would keep until the end of the game. 

Kevon Looney has been battling an illness all series, and hasn't been 100%, but a Kevon Looney at 50% is still a lot to handle. 

Curry led the Warriors in scoring, but he got some big time production from his role players like Moses Moody who hit two quick threes off the bench. 

Golden State hit seven threes in the first quarter, but Anthony Davis kept the Lakers in the game with 13 points in the opening 12 minutes. 

Gary Payton II started for the second straight game and produced on the offensive end and locked the Lakers down on the defensive end.

Draymond Green stepped up early on and added "another element" to the Warriors offense as Steph Curry said post game.

Anthony Davis got hit in the head by Looney's forearm earlier in the quarter. He went to the bench momentarily and just went back to the locker room in a wheel chair. We will keep you updates.

Green beats the buzzer with a mid range jumper and he's got 20!

Russell blows by Looney and lays it up and in out of the timeout. 

Warriors take a timeout with 6:35 to go in the fourth. 

Reaves floats it over Looney and LA needs to get some stops now. 

Payton II with a strong drive to the rack. He gets the bucket and the foul on James! FT is good to complete the three point play with under 7 to go. 

Russell goes around Looney and scoops it off the glass out of the timeout. 

Timeout Lakers with 7:54 to go in the fourth.

James sticks the pull up and LA continues to hang around. Can they make a run to tighten this game up in the next 8 minutes?

Wiggins drives into the paint and he floats it over the defense with under 9 to go.

Davis was cherry picking after LeBron picked up the long rebound and that leads to an easy jam.

Walker IV with the drive and dump off and he finds LeBron for the slam. 

DiVencenzo missed the reverse lay up, but Looney was there with the tip in. 

Walker IV kicks it out to Schroder who drills the three ball in the corner!

Curry wiggles into the lane lays it in off the glass.

Of course it was going to be Curry to end the half with a buzzer beater. 

Poole's got 9 on the night, and the Warriors ended the half on a big run to take an 11 point lead. 

Wiggins is leading the Warriors in scoring tonight, and he hasn't had a big impact on a game yet this series. Maybe Wigs was saving the best for last. 

LeBron had just four in the first quarter, but came to life in the second and is going to the third quarter with 17. 

Curry hasn't had to be everything for the Warriors, but when he gets an inch of light on his way to the iron, he's taking it. He's got 12 on the night.

Moody came in off the bench and hit two quick threes. He's got six after two quarters. 

Tonight is an odd numbered playoff game, and we know what that means. AD is due for a big night. 

Payton II got his second straight start, and had a couple big first half buckets. He's got 5 at the half. 

When the Warriors need someone to set the tone, they look no farther than Draymond Green. 

The Warriors ended the quarter on a 16-5 run and are in control heading into the third quarter. 

Wiggins leads the Warriors with 16, Green has 14 and Curry has 12. Poole's got another 9 and Thompson has 8. 

It's been a two man show for LA, who have seen AD score 18 and LeBron put up 17. Schroder has 11 off the bench, but LA will need more from their role players.

Looney grabbed the offensive board and then set up a ball screen for Thonpson who drills the three ball!

Green found Wiggins on the baseline from the FT line and Wiggins gets the bucket at the foul! FT is good after the foul on James. 

Curry with a slip pass to Green down the lane and he gets the lay up to go! He's got 12 early points!

Wiggins spins into the lane, floats it up over Schroder and gets the foul! FT is good to complete the three point play!

Davis pulls up from the FT line and he's off to a fantastic start. 

Schroder with the penetration and he hits the scoop lay up. 

Curry down the lane he hangs it high off the glass over AD. 

James at the line and he hits both after the foul on Looney. 

Wiggins going strong to the rack, and let's see if he has a big night. He's been quiet since the first round against the Kings. 

LeBron pulls the trigger from the top of the key, and if the Warriors are going to survive they are going to have to contain James.

We are at the end of the first quarter and the Warriors lead by four after hitting 7/12 threes. Green got a quick 8, Wiggins has five and Moody has 6 off the bench. Klay and Steph both have a 3. 

AD is off the a brilliant start with 13 on 6/8 shooting, Reaves has 5 and James has 4. 

Poole gets into the lane and floats one over AD and that will take us to the end of the first quarter!

Reaves to the line after the foul on Thompson and he its both FTs. 

Davis back in the paint off the entry pass from Hachimura and he's money from short range again. 

Moody drills another three, this time from the corner off the kick out from Poole. 

Schroder gets the mid range jumper to go from the wing. He's got a quick four. 

Thompson drills a three bal and we are starting to warm up here from the Bay. 

Schroder takes Moody off the dribble and he goes reverse off the glass. 

Davis beat everyone down the court and he jams it in transition off the Reaves assist. 

Hachimura pull up from the mid range and he's on the board right off the bench. 

Moody comes off the bench and drills a three from the top of the key out of the timeout!

Reaves gets the offensive board off the miss by Davis and he gets it back to Davis down low for the wide open jam!

James gets fouled on the drive and he hits both FTs after the Poole foul.

Poole off the bench and gets on the board with a pump fake, dribble and pull up from the mid range.

LeBron comes out of the timeout and hits the fader from the FT line. 

Curry drills a deep three ball and the Warriors are on fire out of the gate!

Green going back to the rack and he gets the lay up off the Wiggins dish. He's got 8 early points!

Davis hits the jumper and that's his first FG of the night. 

Payton was left wide open in the corner and he hits the three ball! That's four three point plays to start Game 5!

Green goes into the body of Vanderbilt, gets the bucket and the foul in the paint! FT is good to complete the three point play. 

Russell poked the ball from behind of Green and LeBron scooped it, looked up and found AD for the wide open lay up. 

Wiggins jacks a three ball from the same spot and he sinks it! Great start from behind the arc for the Warriors. 

Steph extends the play on a long offensive board and slips it back to Green who strings the three ball from the top of the key!

LA going to AD right off the bat, and he gets fouled by Green. He hits one of two at the line to start the scoring from the Bay. 

WE ARE UNDERWAY IN GAME 5 FROM CHASE CENTER!!!

In Game 5 Steve Kerr went with a small line up, starting Gary Payton II over Kevon Looney or Jaymychal Green. He must have liked what he saw from the start of last game because he is going with the same starting five again. It's going to take the entire team to try to slow down Anthony Davis with the big guys starting on the bench. 

Darvin Ham has got this far with this starting five, so why change it in an elimination game? LeBron and AD will be key, but who else will step up tonight? Reaves, Vanderbilt or Russell? Or will it be someone off the bench like Lonnie Walker IV last game?

What the Warriors are up against

Only 13 teams have ever come back from a 3-1 comeback in NBA history. One of those teams was the Golden State Warriors and they were the only ones to do it in the NBA FInals. Their opponent that year, was LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Will history repeat itself in this year's Western Conference Semis? Golden State will only be worried about winning Game 5 tonight, 

Don't forget about the Big Three

We all know the story of the Warriors of their Big Three. They have been one of the most dominant teams the league has ever seen over the last decade and until someone knocks them off they will still be the reigning champs. It’s not going to be easy for the Lakers to knock off a team that has so much experience winning in the playoffs. The Warriors have yet to lose a series, in the eight year reign, in which Klay, Steph and Dray started and finished. Tonight there is a lot at stake, and if LA is going to win the series they will have to do it with the Big Three on the court.  

Role players playing their role

LeBron is the top scorer in the history of the NBA, and maybe the best player to ever lace up the sneakers. Anthony Davis is a future Hall of Famer, and one of the best two way big men in the league. But it has been D’Angelo Russell who has been instrumental in LA’s playoff run. Game 4 was the first time the Lakers won a playoff game in which Russell didn’t score 17 points or more. Instead it was Lonnie Walker IV who came up with a huge performance in the fourth quarter. LeBron and AD are legends, but in this postseason, it’s been the role players stepping up and winning games for LA. 

AD on pace for a big game

Anthony Davis broke the curse of the even numbers last game, at least for the first half. It has been well advertised that LA’s big man is outstanding in odd numbered playoff games, but fails to live up to his larger than life expectations in even numbered games. That wasn’t the case in the first 24 minutes of Game 4. He had 19 points and grabbed six boards, but mysteriously went absent in the second half scoring just four points in the final two quarters. His tendency of being consistently inconsistent has not cost LA just yet, and luckily for the Lakers tonight is an odd numbered playoff game. 

Warriors in desperation mode

Steph Curry had a game to remember in Game 4 from LA scoring 31, dishing 14 and registering just his third triple double in the playoffs. Unfortunately, games like that are only remember when your team wins. Curry did everything to will his team to victory on Monday night, but it wasn’t enough to even up the series before coming back to the Bay. Tonight we can expect Steph to be Steph with the Warriors back against the wall, but will the rest of the team be up to the challenge or will a dynasty die tonight? 

Game 4 recap

The Warriors hit the Lakers with their hardest blow, but LA stood standing at the end of four quarters. Steph Curry’s 31 point triple double was nullified by the Lakers side who held off Golden State at Crypto.com Arena. Both teams started slow, totaling 43 points after the first quarter, but Anthony Davis carried his side for the first half before disappearing in the final 24 minutes. LeBron James led all scorers with 28, but it was Lonnie Walker IV who lifted the Lakers to the Game 4 win with 15 fourth quarter points. Walker has exploded in the last two games, scoring 27 points which eclipsed his previous 11 playoff game total of 23 points. Tonight the Lakers roll into the Chase Center with a chance to close out the defending champions in front of their home fans. 

We are live from San Fran

Hello everyone and welcome to the Bay Area where the Warriors dynasty could come to an end if the Lakers beat them on their home court. It’s been a triumphant last decade for Golden State, who have won four titles in the last eight years, but their reign has been threatened by The King of Los Angeles. The Lakers won the opener in San Fran last week, and now have a chance to close out the series with a win at the Chase Center tonight. The defending champs aren’t going to go down with out a fight, especially under their own roof. They have a lot of work to do to win this series, but it all starts tonight in Game 5.

The Golden State Warriors return home facing elimination after losing both games to the Lakers in LA. They come into tonight with a monumental uphill task, but will be focused on just winning Game 5 tonight.
