Lakers continue to climb up the West
LA came into the game as one of the hottest teams in the league, having won six of their last seven, while the Jazz had lost six of seven and plummeted down the Western Conference standings. Utah needed a win to keep their already slim post season chances alive, and they were swinging until the final bell from Vivint Arena.
Both teams were on the money from the field to start the game in what was a high scoring first quarter. The Lakers were up one going into the second, but Anthony Davis and LeBron James would capture control of the game in before halftime as the lead stretched to as many 12 twelve in a late second quarter run.
The Lakers would come out of the halftime break with an Austin Reaves three pointer to bump the advantage up to a game high 14 to start the third quarter, but the Jazz kept chipping away as the quarter went on. Damian Jones tied the game up with two free-throws and the Jazz had a defensive stand on the LeBron who missed a contested lay up as the clock expired.

Remaining schedule: Lakers
The Lakers are looking good heading into the final stretch of the season, but have just four games left to catch up to the to those who are in automatic playoff position. They will play the Jazz twice, tonight and at the end of the season and will have two massive matchups with the Clippers and the Suns in between. They way the Lake Show has been playing, don’t be surprised if they win out and avoid the Play-In.
Remaining schedule: Jazz
The Jazz have just four games left to make the playoffs, after losing six of their last seven. They play the Lakers twice in the final four games, tonight and to wrap up the regular season. In between, they will host the OKC Thunder and the Western leading Denver Nuggets before closing the season in a potential all or nothing matchup against the Lakers in LA.
How the West is looking
Taking a look at the Western Conference, we see the Jazz have drifted away from the pack. They sit in 12th coming into tonight, which leaves them a game an a half behind the Thunder who are in 10th place in the final Play-In Position. It seems like the Lakers won’t be having to worry about making the postseason after their recent surge, but now their sights will be set on avoiding the Play-In Tournament. They are 7th place in the West tied with the Pelicans, and both are just a half game behind the Warriors who would not have to play in the Play-In Tournament.
Lakers on a successful road trip
LeBron and AD are back on the court together and things are looking up for the Lakers. It’s has been a tumultuous season in LA, but the ship is starting to straighten at just the right time. They had to make a midseason makeover of the roster, but it seems like the front office hit it right on the head, and now the Lakers are rolling as the playoffs draw closer.
Utah back home
The Utah Jazz no it’s now or never. They lost Donovan Mitchell over the offseason which would be a tough void for any team to fill, but the Jazz have been especially hurt by the departure and now have just four games to save their season. They return home for three of those four games with no margin for error. Despite that face, Kelley Olynyk seems relativley relaxe coming into Vivint Arena.
LA's last game
LA is on their fourth of a five game road trip that couldn’t be going any better. They started it with a win over the Bulls in Chicago, got through a tricky matchup with Minnesota and are coming off a 25 point win over the lowly Houston Rockets. LeBron put up a triple double in his fourth game back from a foot injury and Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 40 points. The Rockets led 5-2, but never led again after the Lakers took the lead and stretched it to as many as 27 towards the end of the last quarter to win their third straight and their sixth in the last seven.
Jazz last game
The Jazz almost made an epic comeback on the Nets in Brooklyn over the weekend but it was all for not as Utah came up a point short. After a terrible start to the game at the Barclay’s Center in which they scored just 17 points, the Jazz had to battle back into the game in the fourth quarter. The Nets built up a 23 point lead with ten minutes to go in the game, but Utah came storming back on the shoulders of Talen Horton-Tucker who had 32 points in the losing effort, as the Jazz went on a 15-0 run to bring the game to within four points with 1:21 go to go in the game. Kelly Olynyk had a chance to win the game a mid range jumper as the clock expired but missed the buzzer beater and the Jazz dropped even farther back from the 10th spot in the West.
