Update:

Luka Doncic continued his scintillating start to the season by putting on another scoring masterclass in the Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA Cup victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Slovenian superstar dropped 43 points, 13 assists and 9 rebounds in his team’s 135-118 win. It marked the Lakers’ fifth straight victory and secured top spot in West Group B.

Doncic ties MJ after another monster night

Doncic racked up 24 points in the first quarter and had 32 by halftime. His work in the second half means he has now recorded 40-point double-doubles on 39 occasions, one more than Mavericks center Anthony Davis and tied with the legendary Michael Jordan, according to Stats Muse.

In that particular ranking, only James Harden (47), Giannis Antetokounmpo (46), Joel Embiid (44) and Shaquille O’Neal (43) sit above Doncic. At just 26, he has plenty of time to break this record and a whole lot of others.

Lakers’ big three finding their rhythm

The Lakers have pinned their hopes on Doncic leading a championship push and recent signs suggest that could become reality. His chemistry with LeBron James and Austin Reaves has grown quickly since James’ return from injury.

The trio combined for 99 points against the Clippers, moving the Lakers to 13-4 and into second place in the Western Conference.

Thunder remain the team to beat

Their biggest challenge now is catching the Oklahoma City Thunder (17-1), the reigning NBA champions who look even stronger this season.
