Luka reacts to Mavs’ first loss of the season

Luka Doncic put up 35 points in the Mavericks season opener against the Phoenix Suns, but they blew a 22-point lead and lost 107-105.

Update:

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic put up 35 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in 37 minutes in their season opener against the team they eliminated from the playoffs last season, the Phoenix Suns.

The Mavs were off to a great start, picking up a huge 22-point lead in the third quarter, but as Doncic said, they “relaxed a little bit”. One can never be too confident in the NBA and one can never relax.

The Suns came from behind and took back the lead in the fourth quarter after Damion Lee went on a spree, scoring all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner with 9.7 seconds left on the clock.

“We weren’t thinking the game’s done, but we just relaxed and thought it’s a lot of points, we’re going to get there, we’re going to win,” said Doncic. “Like I said, we just can’t relax. It’s happened a lot of times. We can’t be blowing leads. This is a thing we have to work on, and we will for sure.”

Doncic tried to win it for the Mavs with a 3-point attempt at the buzzer, but he missed it. The Mavs blew the lead and lost the season opener to the Suns, 107-105. As for Doncic, he was happy with his performance despite the loss.

“I don’t think I was frustrated at all,” said the 23-year-old. “I mean, we lost. But I think I was good.”
