The 32-year-old arrived in Dallas as part of the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade but he’s not yet had much of an impact at American Airlines Center.

Update:

The Dallas Mavericks took a real swing with the controversial blockbuster trade that saw superstar guard Luka Doncic depart for the LA Lakers. In return they got, amongst other things, a ten-time NBA All-Star in the form of Anthony Davis.

Power forward Davis was supposed to add greater physicality to the Mavericks defense but he’s not yet managed to have much of an impact. He has been sidelined since February 8 and has made just one appearances for the Mavericks.

Now, amid talk of shutting him down for the season, Dallas have opted to assign Anthony Davis to G League team Texas Legends while he continues his recovery from a strained left adductor.

ESPN reports that Davis will be practicing with the Legends and will be allowed to participate in five-on-five scrimmages to help him regain match fitness. The Mavericks find themselves in the midst of a genuine injury crisis with guard Jaden Hardy also dropping down to the Legends having missed the past seven games due to a sprained ankle.

On Friday the Mavs fell to a heavy 133-96 loss to the Houston Rockets and they followed that up with a defeat against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. Dallas' poor run now extends just just one victory in their last nine games and they face serious availability issues.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the worsening injury crisis, along with the fact that players like Kessler Edwards are nearing that maximum eligibility, means that the Mavericks may struggle to fill the bench in weeks to come. NBA rules dictate that teams must list at least 12 active players for each game, with no fewer that eight on the bench in uniform. They could, of course, avoid forfeiting games by making injured players sit on the bench for upcoming games but it underscores the seriousness of the situation for Dallas.
