Mavericks waive Tyler Dorsey; EuroLeague in standby
The Dallas Mavericks waived Tyler Dorsey on Monday, and now the EuroLeague is possibly waiting for him
Tyler Dorsey will not continue with the Dallas Mavericks.
As reported by Shams Charania, the Texan franchise has broken its relationship with the Greek-American guard and has signed a two-way contract with AJ Lawson.
Dorsey has played only three games with the Mavs this season, eight minutes on the court. In the G-League, he averaged 24.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
Another Campazzo case
The 26-year-old leaves the Mavs shortly after Facundo Campazzo, who made his debut for Red Star on Sunday after failing to reach an agreement with Real Madrid, the team that had his rights on the Old Continent. The escort’s destination will also, surely, be the Euroleague.
Dorsey, who will be a free agent soon, is on the agenda of several Euroleague teams, including Olympiacos, his last team in Europe.
Dorsey was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2017 draft and played for the Georgia franchise for a season and a half (83 games) before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies (21 games). In the summer of 2019, he signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he spent two seasons, before moving to Olympiacos, with whom he averaged 12.8 points and 2.3 rebounds for 10.3 goals last season. According to Eurohoops, AS Monaco would have already sent him an offer of $1.25 million for the remainder of the season.
Olympiacos has already made a move, according to the journalist Matteo Andreani: 2.5 million for the remainder of this season and the next. Movement is also expected from Maccabi.
Meanwhile, Turkish champions Fenerbahce was the team that presented Dorsey with the biggest contract offer last summer.
The guard obtained Greek nationality (his mother is of Greek origin) in 2015, a few days before playing in the U-19 World Cup. His first major championship with the senior team was this summer’s Eurobasket, where he finished as the second-highest scorer for his team (13.6) behind Giannis Antetokounmpo.
