Doncic racks up record figures despite Dallas struggles

Doncic, who this season led the Mavs past the First Round of the Playoffs for the first time since the franchise won the NBA championship in 2011, has added to his impressive career postseason figures in the face of injury issues.

Mavs ace tops Chamberlain’s combined average in Game 1

In Game 1 against the Suns, NBA reporter Micah Adams noted that Doncic’s combined 60 points, rebounds and assists (45, 12 and 8) improved his average across all his Playoff appearances to a combined 51.4.

Per Adams, that moved the Slovenian’s average past that of NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain as the best in the history of the league. On Wednesday night, Doncic then set about surpassing another NBA great.

Doncic outdoes Jordan in Game 2

Despite the Mavs’ defeat to the Suns in Game 2, the 23-year-old scored 35 points at FootPrint Center, leaving him with a total of 603 points in 18 career Playoff games - an average of 33.5.

This takes Doncic past Michael Jordan’s NBA-high Playoffs average of 33.4, albeit Jordan, a six-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, achieved this record across many more postseason appearances: 179.

Former Philadelphia 76ers star Allen Iverson is third on the list with an average of 29.7, while Doncic is joined by several other current players in the top 10: the Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant is fourth (29.4), the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James is sixth (28.7), the Utah Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell is seventh (28.3) and the Lakers’ Anthony Davis is eighth (27.3).
