The NBA All-Star events will take place all weekend, starting this Friday, February 14 and into the evening on Sunday, February 16. Things get started on Friday with the Celebrity All-Star Game as well as the Rising Stars Game. While the latter features celebrities of all kinds (athletes, musicians, actors), the rising stars feature the best of the NBA’s young talent.

NBA All-Star Rising Stars Game - the details

The NBA’s All-Star Rising Stars Game is the league’s annual showcase of their best young talent. The player pool consists of 10 NBA rookies, 11 NBA sophomores, and seven NBA G League players. The 21 NBA players are split into three seven-player teams, and the seven G League players make up the fourth team.

  • When: Friday, February 14, 9 p.m. ET
  • Where: Chase Center
  • Format:
    • Game 1: Team C vs. Team T
    • Game 2: Team G League vs. Team M
    • Game 3: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2

The Coaches for the Rising Stars

The NBA announced Hall of Famers Tim Hardaway Sr., Chris Mullin, and Mitch Richmond as the honorary head coaches of the three NBA Rising Stars teams, and former NBA player Jeremy Lin will be the honorary coach of the G League team. All the coaches were former Golden State Warriors players.

The head coaches will be assisted by the NBA All-Star Game coaching staffs (the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder).

The Rising Stars Roster

The NBA players for the Rising Stars game were selected by the coaching staffs of each NBA team - one ballot per coaching staff. Each team selected four front court players, four guards, and two players at either position for the rookie ballot and sophomore ballot. The coaching staffs were prohibited from voting for players on their own team. Points were awarded to the players based on where they were ranked on the ballot and the participants were then determined by their total points received.

A player draft was then held with Hardaway, Richmond, and Mullin. The first-round pick was Amen Thompson to Richmond’s “Team M”. Here is the full roster for each team.

*Those players with an asterisk were chosen as replacements. (Rookie Jared McCain (76ers) and sophomores Victor Wembanyama (Spurs), Brandon Miller (Hornets), Dereck Lively II (Mavericks), Cason Wallace (Thunder) and Scott Henderson (Trail Blazers) will not play.
