KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - MARCH 26: Jordan Miller #11 of the Miami Hurricanes celebrates during the second half against the Texas Longhorns in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at T-Mobile Center on March 26, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Miami Hurricane are headed to Houston for their first Final Four in program history after a dramatic comeback win over the Texas Longhorns on Sunday night. Jordan Miller didn’t miss all night as he went for 27 points in the 88-81 win.

Miller’s perfect night

It was the second year that the Canes made the Elite 8, and this time they were going up against a Texas team that was the top seeded team in the tournament after Miami knocked off the last standing one seed, Houston in the Sweet 16.

Jim Larrañaga’s side got off the block quickly, jumping out to a 7-0 start but Texas would punch back as Timmy Allen and Marcus Carr started to heat up. The first half was played at a feverish pace, as both teams exchanged blows and the lead never stretched past 5 points.

The Longhorns made a little run at the end of the half, and went up by 8 points heading into the break. Carr, Allen Sir’Jabari Rice built the lead up to 13 to start the break, but Miami was saving the best for last in Jordan Miller’s perfect night. Miller went 7/7 from the field and 13/13 from the line, but it wasn’t until Miami’s leading scorer Isaiah Wong got going after scoring just two points in the second half.

Miami defense stuns Longhorns in second half

The second half went at a snail pace as both teams were going to the free throw line for what seemed to be every possession for a stretch of more than five minutes. That took Texas out of their rhythm and allowed the Canes to get back to the game.

Miami’s defense started to lock down, as Texas was held to just one field goal over a span of eight minutes. In that time the Canes went from 13 down to up 1 after Norchad Omier hit an alley oop lay up, and got fouled. His FT would put Miami with 5:26 to go in the second half.

Texas would score just six points in the final five minutes of the game, as Wong ended the night with 14 points, and Miller finished off the Longhorns to book the first Final Four ticket in program history. They will meet UCONN in the national semifinal that features three teams that are making their first appearance on college basektball’s biggest stage.
