Micic staying at Efes despite interest from NBA
The Serbian point guard from Anadolu Efes, MVP of the last two Euroleague Final Fours, continues another year with the Turkish team despite his intention to go to the NBA.
The final big news in the European basketball transfer market has been confirmed: Vasilije Micic (28 years old, 1.96 meters) is staying at Efes. The player’s own agent, Misko Raznatovic, confirmed the news earlier today. The Serbian point guard will continue for at least another year at Anadolu Efes, with whom he has won the last two Euroleagues, being also MVP in both Final Fours.
Micic was expected to end up in the NBA
Everything seemed to point to the Serbian guard heading to the NBA. He already tried a year ago, although in the end he did not agree with the franchise that had his rights, the Oklahoma City Thunder. So he continued under the leadership of Ergin Ataman and wound up making history again, raising his second consecutive Euroleague and winning Finals MVP. Micic said a few days ago that he was ready to make the leap to the best league in the world and that this could be the right time. Statements that undoubtedly pointed to his departure to the United States.
However, the Serbian seems not to have received offers to his liking. The Thunder, in full rebuild mode, had no interest in incorporating a player of his age and his cache who could take minutes from their young players. The option was transfer his rights to another franchise that had bigger aspirations, where Micic could contribute from the first minute thanks to his quality and experience. But that didn’t happened and the Serbian has decided to extend his relationship with Efes.
