NBA All-Star Game Team Giannis 184 vs. 175 Team LeBron summary: stats and highlights
Giannis Antetokounmpo got his first victory as an All-Star Game “GM” as his team beat Team LeBron in Salt Lake City on Saturday night. Jayson Tatum broke the All-Star Game scoring record with a 55 point performance in the 184-175 victory.
Giannis makes honorary start
For the first time ever the team captains, LeBron James and Giannis, did a live draft in the minutes leading up to the game and Giannis couldn’t have chosen a better person to pick with his first selection. He took Jayson Tatum, and that move would end up paying dividends for the Milwaukee Buck and his team.
The Greek came into the weekend with a bummed wrist, so he started the game, had the game’s first basket and then was taken out promptly by his All-Star coach Joe Mazzula.
LeBron James and Tatum went bucket for bucket in the first quarter, as the NBA’s All-time leading scorer showed he came to play and he came to win. LeBron had an alley top off the glass to himself, hit a 35 foot three pointer and even had a block in a rare defensive display in an All-Star game.
LeBron injures hand before halftime
Both teams went back and forth in a high scoring first quarter that ended up in a tie, which meant that each team’s charity would split the $100,000 awarded to the winner of each quarter.
LeBron’s former teammate and his second overall pick Kyrie Irving ended the first half as the leading scorer with 18 points but Team Giannis won the second quarter and the first $100,000 prize that went to their charity, Raise the Future. LeBron would not return in the second half after jamming his hand on the rim at the end of the first half.
Irving may have been the top scorer after two quarters, but Tatum would take the stage in the second half. He and Donovan Mitchell came out and scored the first 28 points for Team Giannis as Damian Lillard got involved from long range as well. The sharp shooting allowed Team Giannis to build up a big lead that led to another winning quarter as the Boston Celtic’s superstar went for 27 in the third quarter.
Perfect shoe debut for Tatum
After three quarters, the target score was set at 182, but there was another target on the mind of Tatum. He had the All-Star record 52 points in the back of his mind. He was just 9 points away from the record, and on a night where he debuted his new shoes in collaboration with Jordan, Tatum dropped 55 points on 22/31 shooting and was named MVP of the All-Star Game.
In the end Team Giannis raised $550.000 for their charity in their win as Tatum went down in history and Antetokounmpo finally got his first win as a team captain.
Tatum broke the All-Star record with a 55 point performance in Utah on the same day his new shoe came out for Jordan brand. He was the unquestioned MVP of the All Star Game from Salt Lake City.
Jayson Tatum had 17 points at the end of the first half, he but up 27 in the third in route to his record setting night.
Jayton Tatum, Donovan Mitchell and Damian Lillard came out red hot in the third quarter, and Lillard jacked this one from behind halfcourt.
It wouldn't be an All-Star game without a surplus of dunks and the All-Stars got the crowd in Utah off their seats early and often.
Luka Doncic was mic'd up with the TNT broadcast team and had one of his two field goals of the night.
Tatum saw LeBron do it, so we threw an alley oop to himself off the glass. That was the first indication of what was to come from the Celtic who would end up setting the All-Star Game record for points in a game.
Ja Morant may not be participating in any dunk contests any time soon but every game is a dunk contest for the high flyer.
LeBron got his team going early, and showed he was about his buisness with this auto alley oop off the glass.
Team Giannis just won a total of $550,000 for Raise the Future as Jayson Tatum set an All-Star Game record with 55 points!
The hometown kid Markkanen had a chance to win it from the three point line, but it was Lillard who got the offensive rebound and drilled the three ball to give Team Giannis the win in Salt Lake City.
TATUM AT THE LINE AND HE BREAKS THE ALL TIME ALL-STAR SCORING RECORD BY GOING ONE OF TWO FROM THE LINE. HE HAS 53 ON THE NIGHT AND TEAM GIANNIS IS 5 POINTS AWAY.
TATUM IS OVER 50 WITH HIS 10TH THREE BALL OF TH E GAME!! HE'S IS 21-29 from the field and Team Giannis is about to end this game.
Tatum had 27 points in the third quarter and goes into the final period with 44 points. 50 is well within reach, and he is looking like the odds on MVP.
We start the fourth quarter and the Target Score is 182.
Tatum stole the show, but Dame Dollar had the crown on it's feet with this half court pull up.
The third quarter is all over after a little two man game between Brown and Tatum. Brown got the best of Tatum, but team Team Gianniis win that quarter 59-49 as their charity gets another $100,000.
Brown just called out Tatum, his Celtics teammate and hit a turn around and then a three ball for 5 quick points.
Tatum is over 40 points and he's chasing 50.
Tatum has not stopped scoring in the 3rd quarter. He has a game high 39 points with 3:46 to go in the third.
Lillard pulls up from behind half cort and barley touched the net!
Timeout with 3:46 to go in the 3rd quarter and Team Giannis is in command here, up by 19.
TATUM DROPS ANOTHER THREE AND HE HAS 20 POINTS IN THE FIRST 8 MINUTES OF THE SECOND HALF!!
With no LeBron or Giannis in the second half, it's MItchell and Tatum looking like they want to take the reigns. Tatum has 14 in the 3rd quater already and 34 for the game, while MItchell has 27 on the night.
MItchell drains back to back three balls and he pulls ahead of Kyrie at 22 points
So the start the quarter from scratch and Joel Embiid gets the easy jam down the lane.
Kyrie set the tone in the first half and leads all scorers with 19 going into the second half.
After about an hour break for the halftime show we are finally back in play from Utah. We have one more quarter to go before we head in the fourth which will be decided by a Target score.
The halftime festivities continue. Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the All-Time leading scorer LeBron James were honored on stage during halftime.
We are getting set for the second half of action, and unfortuneatley Giannis isn't the only captain that won't be playing the second half. The Greek is out with a wrist injury, and now LeBron will miss the second half after injuring his hand on the rim.
This was the play of the first half. LeBron bringing it like he always does. This time he goes off the glass, around Mitchell and slams it on the auto alley oop.

It's halftime so that means some of the celebs courtside will be enjoying an up close look at Burna Boy, Tems and Rems. D Wade and Carmelo are looking ready for the show.
Tatum has 17 for Team Giannis, Mitchell has 16 and Siakam has 12 and 7 rebounds through two quarters.
Kyrie Irving leads all scorers with 18 poinst and three assists, but LeBron has been putting on the show. He has 13 points and four assists and even a block, showing the All-Star Game can have some defensive plays.

This second quarter has turned into a dunk contest as each team are letting the other get to the basket with plenty of ease.
We just saw our first bit of defense and it was LeBron coming from behind and blocking SGA. It might not be the most intense game but LeBron is showing these young guys how an All-Star Game is supposed to be played.

So we basically start from scratch in this second quarter with the game tied at 46-46
Tatum was the leading scorer in that first quarter, scoring 13 points out of the gate. He and LeBron look like they will be going toe-to-toe all night. LeBron has 9 points and Kyrie has 11 to lead Team LeBRon.
With the score tied at 46, DeRozan had a chance to win the quarter, but missed his fade away baseline jumper.
That means there is a share of the spoils, and both teams charties will get $50,000 dollars a piece.
Lillard came off the bench and hasn't stopped shooting since. He hit a deep one, but has missed his last six threes.

Dame Dollar came off the bench and jaked a three ball while Luka was having a convo with Candice Parker and Reggie Miller who are calling the game.
We have a timeout with 2:32 to go in the first quarter and things should get interesting as the defense picks up to end the quarter with $100,000 on the line.
LeBron just pulled up from about 40 feet and he and Tatum are going head to head right now in the 1st quarter. The last two minutes are going to interesting as charity money is on the line.

All-Star injuries
There will be plenty of star power on display tonight but three of the players selected to the All-Star Game will not be playing tonight. Zion Williamson, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant will miss tonight’s contest due to injury. Curry and KD are used to getting here but it would have been Zion’s first time participating in the ASG. ZION, CURRY AND KD. Pasca; Siakam, Anthony Edwards and De’Aaron Fox have been named as their replacements tonight.

The Captains of each team were the leading vote getters in their respective conference. LeBron James was the top vote getter with 6,506,682 votes and Giannis got 5,970,196 votes out of the Eastern Conference. Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving were guards who got the most votes in their respective conference. The Warriors sharp shooter had 5,151,822 votes and Kyrie Irving got 3,968,041 votes. All-Star coaches
The two teams with the highest records in their respective conference send their coaches to the All-Star Game to lead the teams. This year it’s Mike Malone of the Denver Nuggets coaching and Joe Mazzula of the Boston Celtics who will be coaching Team LeBron and Team Giannis. Mazzula’s Celtics are tops in the Eastern Conference with a record of 42-17, and Malone’s Nuggets are first in the West with a record 41-18.
Charity vs. Charity tonight
One of the best things the NBA has done over the course of the last few years is involve prized money for the specific charities that the captains choose. Not only does the money go to a good cause, but it has added a bit of competition to not just the game, but each individual quarter. Team LeBron will be playing for Big Brothers Big Sister Utah, while Team Giannis will play for Raise the Future.
How it works
Once the teams are picked there will be three normal 12 minute quarters that will serve as mini games on their own. The winner of each of the three quarters will win $100,000 for their respective charity until we reach an untimed final quarter. At the end of the third quarter, there will be a target set and the first team to hit that target will be named the winner of the All-Star Game. The target will be set at the end of the third quarter by adding 24 points to the team who is leading going into the final quarter. Let’s say it’s 100-99, they the target both teams will try to get to is 124. The team to reach the target will be awarded $200,000 to it’s charity.
Choosing sides
The NBA All-Star Game has taken on new form in recent years, as the league drifted away from their general East vs. West Matchup back in 2018. Since then, it has been up to the captains of each team to decide their teams. The fans vote the 24 members of both teams and the top vote getters from each conference. For the first time ever, the teams will be named 30 minutes before the game as LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo select their reservers first and then their starters.
