Ben Sheppard - Belmont - Small Forward

as.com

With the 24th pick of the NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select: (pick will head to Dallas after trade)

There may not be anyone who has skyrocketed up the draft board that Prosper. He had a solid junior season at Marquette, scoring 12.5 and getting 4.7 rebounds a game, but really started catching the eye of NBA teams in the combine and in his workouts. as.com

The Portland Trail Blazers are on the clock.

as.com

With the 22nd pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Brooklyn Nets select,

Dariq Whitehead - Duke - Small Forward

Whitehead is a tough, no nonsense slasher that plugged right in to John Scheyer’s offense. He is a great shooter, shooting over 42% from downtown. He averaged just 8.3 points a game, as he continued to recover from a second foot surgery. If he can stay healthy, he will be a big threat on the offensive end.

as.com

Brooklyn is back on the clock.

as.com

With the 21st pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Brooklyn Nets select,

Noah Clowney - Alabama - Power Forward

The Brooklyn Nets were thinking defense with Clowney with this pick. He’s tall, he’s long with a 7’2” wingspan and he can shoot the ball for a big man. He averaged 9.8 points and dragged down 8 rebounds a game as a freshman and on top of that is a tremendous shot blocker.

as.com

The Brooklyn Nets are on the clock.

as.com

With the 20th pick of the NBA Draft, the Houston Rockets select,

Cam Whitmore - Villanova - Small Forward

Whitmore came into Villanova and proved that he was the big man on campus for the Wildcats in his freshman year. He’s a little undersized to be a power forward but he is physical, he is an energy player, and can do the little things that make the difference for a team down the stretch. He averaged 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds at under 6’6” and will only improve on a team that he is surely going to have an opportunity to have an impact on immediately.

as.com

With the 19th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors select,

Brandin Podziemski - Santa Clara - Shooting Guard

With Jordan Poole shipping off to Washington, the Warriors need a shooter off the bench. Podziemski is exactly that. He averaged 20 points a game and shot 44% from downtown. He can do it off the dribble or spot up, and will now let to learn from the best shooter to ever play the game.

as.com

The Golden State Warriors are on the clock.

as.com

With the 18th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Miami Heat select,

Jamie Jaquez Jr. - UCLA - Small Forward

The Pac-12 Player of the Year is a tough, gritty player that knows how to the play the game and should fit into the Heat culture well. He averaged almost 18 points and 8 rebounds per game. He spent all four years at UCLA, and he will bring some more maturity than the typical college kid.

as.com

The Miami Heat are on the clock.

as.com

With the 17th pick of the NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select,

Jalen Hood-Schifino - Indiana - Point Guard

The former Hoosier is known for his three point shooting, but can play with the ball in his hands and can play off the pick and roll. With a 6’10” wingspan he can swam opponents on the defensive end. He averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in his freshman year in Indiana.

as.com

The Los Angeles Lakers are on the clock.

as.com

With the 16th pick of the NBA Draft the Utah Jazz select,

Keyonte George - Baylor - Shooting Guard

George scored over 500 points as a freshman last year. He’s quick and has no problem creating his own shots. His shooting average could have been better, but he put up 15.3 points a game with the Bears last year. The 6’4” guard will have no problem getting his shots in Salt Lake City.

as.com

The Utah Jazz are on the clock.

as.com

With the 15th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks select,

Kobe Bufkin - Michigan - Point Guard

as.com

The Atlanta Hawks are on the clock.

as.com

With the 14th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the New Orleans Pelicans select,

Jordan Hawkins - UConn - Shooting Guard

The National Champion, and UConn Husky is one of the best shooters in the draft and without question the best triggerman left on the board. He shot almost 40% from downtown, and scored 16.2 points a game and will be an immediate threat with the catch and shoot from deep.

as.com

The New Orleans Pelicans are on the clock

as.com

With the 13th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors select:

Grady Dick - Kansas - Shooting Guard

The Kansas sharp shooter will be welcomed on a Toronto Raptors team that is in desperate need of some inspiration on the offensive end. Dick shot over 40% from three point range, and on top of being a fantastic deep ball specialist, he has a high basketball IQ. He averaged 14.1 points and 5.1 rebounds, and on top of that his red ruby suit might be the talk of the draft.

as.com

The Toronto Raptors are on the clock.

as.com

With the 12th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder select: (Pick will go to the Dallas Mavericks after a trade)

Dereck Lively II - Duke - Center

Livley is the first center to be taken in this draft. He is a paint filler who has long arms and the ability to affect shots on the defensive side of the ball. He scored just 5.4 points, but dragged down 6.8 rebounds a game while blocking 2.4 shots a game. He won’t need to score much on a stacked offensive team, but he is a big defensive presence for a team that needs exactly that.

as.com

The Oklahoma City Thunder are on the clock

as.com

With the 11th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select:

Jett Howard - Michigan - Shooting Guard

The three point sniper with NBA pedigree has a sky high basketball IQ and has unlimited range. He scored 14.2 points, and shot 36.8% from three point range playing for his dad Juwan Howard at the University of Michigan.

as.com

With the 10th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Dallas Mavericks select: (This pick will go to the OKC Thunder after a trade)

Carson Wallace - Kentucky - Point Guard

Wallace is just another guard to come out of the basketball factory at the University of Kentucky. He is defensive mastermind, and someone who knows how to do a little bit of everything. The Thunder have enough scorers, now they will be hoping this former Wildcat that averaged 11.7 points and 4.3 assists per game will come in and be able to orchestrate the team from the PG position.

as.com

After a trade between the Dallas Mavericks and the OKC Thunder, the Thunder are on the clock with the 10th pick

as.com

With the ninth pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Utah Jazz select:

Taylor Hendricks - UCF - Power Forward

Hendicks is a prototypical 3 and D player, who can spot up from long range and D anyone up on the other side of the court. He’s a stretch 4, but loves to get out in transition and run the floor. He averaged 15 and 7 rebounds in his freshman year to become the first UCF player to be drafted in the first round.

as.com

The Utah Jazz are on the clock.

as.com

With the 8th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft the Washington Wizards select:

Jarace Walker - Houston - Power Forward

Walker will be heading to the Indiana Pacers after the trade between the two teams just moments ago. He’s an athletic big guy who can step back and knock down shots. He’s an unselfish, team first player to can do it on both ends of the floor. He averaged 11.2 ppg and 6.8 rpg a game in his freshman year as a Houston Cougar.

as.com

The Washington Wizards are now on the clock.

as.com

Apparently the Washington Wizards who have the 7th pick just traded the Indiana Pacers for Coulibaly

as.com

With the seventh pick in the 2023 NBA Draft select:

Bilal Coulibaly - France - Small Forward

Coulibaly is not a great offensive threat just yet, although we saw his average bump up later in the season. He and Wembanyama took Levallois to the Finals thanks to his fantastic ability to defend the ball. He is still 18 years old and has plenty of room to improve on a Pacers team that is likely going throw him into the fire from the start. He averaged 5 points, and 3 rebounds in the French league this season.

as.com

The Indiana Pacers are on the clock

as.com

With the sixth pick in the NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select:

Anthony Black - Arkansas - Power Forward

Black ran the Razorbacks offense as a freshman, but can score the basketball as well. He’s an all around guard with size that can create a mismatch for any defense and has a top notch basketball IQ. He averaged 12.8 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 3.9 APG in Arkansas last year

as.com

The Orlando Magic are on the clock

as.com

With the fifth pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons select:

Ausar Thompson - Overtime Elite - Shooting Guard

Ausar the same height as his brother Amen, but has an even longer wingspan and shoots the ball a little better. He is more of a scorer than a passer, and uses his seven foot wingspan to reel in a few more rebounds. He averaged 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists a game in the G League last season.

as.com

The Detroit Pistons are on the clock

as.com

With the fourth pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Houston Rockets select:

Amen Thompson - Overtime Elite - Point Guard

Of the two Thompson twins, Amen is more highly ranked coming into the Draft, but not by much. He can run the point or shooting guard, and knows how to score the ball of the dribble or distribute. Amen averaged 16.4 ppg, 7.1 reg and 6.1 assists, but his three point shooting needs a little work. He shot just 25% in 15 games, but there is plenty of time to bump that number up.

as.com

The Houston Rockets are on the clock

as.com

With the third pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select:

Scoot Henderson - G-League Ignite - Point Guard

If there is anyone who has maybe, just maybe, taken away the spotlight of Wemby coming into this draft, it’s Scoot. Henderson skipped college to go earn some money while prepping for the Draft. He posted 16.5 points, dished 6.8 assists and pulled down 5.3 rebounds a game with the G League Ignite. He has done nothing but impress since starting his pre-draft workouts, which shoot him up the board, if he had any room to shoot up.

as.com

The Portland Trail Blazers are on the clock

as.com

With the 2nd pick of the NBA Draft, the Charlotte Hornets select:

Brandon Miller - Alabama - Small Forward

He is probably the best player coming out of college in this year’s draft class. Miller has got a big body at 6’9” but can play on the perimeter and can get buckets from anywhere on the floor. He is involved in a murder case in Alabama, but is not a suspect so that really shouldn’t come into play tonight. He averaged almost 19 points and 8 rebounds in the Crimson Tide’s season in which they finished on top of the AP Top 25 rankings.

as.com

The Charlotte Bobcats are on the clock

as.com

Scouting report

What don’t we know about Wemby at this point? He has been the favorite to go first overall in the 2023 Draft for the last two years, if not more. He is the perfect mismatch nightmare for any defense. He is 7’5” according to his scouting report and averaged over 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the French league in both categories against grown men in Pro-A as an 19 year old. His team fell just short of the Pro A title, but they were only in that position because of him.

as.com

With the 1st pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs select:

Victor Wembanaya - France - Center

as.com

THE 2023 NBA DRAFT IS UNDERWAY FROM BROOKLYN, NEW YORK!!!

The San Antonio Spurs are on the clock starting now

as.com

Biggest draft busts

When we talk about NBA Draft Day busts, there have been a few. The big names coming out of high school or college don’t alway translate to the NBA. In this day and age of Europeans dominating the world of basketball, it’s easy to forget that Serbian Darko Milicic was one of the biggest flops in the history of the league. The Pistons picked him second overall in 2003 in a draft with LeBron, D-Wade and Carmelo. He went on to average six points a game and never got regular playing time with the Pistons before turning his talents to the octagon as an MMA fighter. Greg Oden was taken No. 1 overall by the Portland Trail Blazers, but injuries crushed the big man’s chance of ever becoming a household name in the league. There are others like Michael Olawakandi, Kwame Brown, and Adam Morrison who were drafted in the top three and never quite had the NBA careers like they were expected to have.

as.com

Draft steals

Who will be the steal of this draft? If history has shown us anything, it’s that you don’t have to be a number one overall pick to be a superstar in this league. Just look at the last NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic. He was taken midway through the second round with the 41st pick of the 2014 Draft.

The Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo was a 15th overall pick, and between those two they have four MVPs and two NBA Championship. Kobe Bryant was the 13th pick coming out of high school in the 96 Draft, while Manu Ginobli was selected with the 57th overall pick. Just think of that, if he was in this draft he would have been the second to last pick in the entire draft.

as.com

Thompson twins making history?

We could be on the verge of witnessing history tonight. There have been twins that have played in the league together. There have even been twins that were drafted in the first round together. But never in the history of the league have two twins been drafted in the top 10 of the same draft. We have a great possibility of that taking place tonight as Amen and Auser Thompson await getting called on to stage at the Barclays Center tonight.

as.com

Who has the least and most picks in this Draft

There are 242 players that have declared for tonight’s NBA Draft but there are just 58 picks spread out throughout the two rounds. There are only 58 because the Philadelphia 76ers and the Chicago Bulls forfeited their second round picks because of free agency violations. The Bulls, Sixers and Knicks will all be without a draft pick barring a trade at the last minute. The Indiana Pacers and the Charlotte Hornets will have the most picks of the night with five each. It’s comes as no surprise that a two teams that ended at the bottom of the league have loads of picks to try to improve their roster.

as.com

San Antonio's last No. 1 pick

The last time the San Antonio Spurs had the first overall pick came in 1997, when they drafted a guy named Tim Duncan. They finished the season previous at 13th in the West with a record of 20-62 which gave them the best chance to land the No. 1 overall pick in the Draft Lottery. Duncan came in and made an immediate impact, as Popovich began his tenure as coach of the Spurs that year. The former Wake Forest Demon Deacon would go on to win Rookie of the Year as the Spurs made the playoffs and the rest was history. Duncan and the Spurs would go on to win five NBA titles, he would win two MVPs and three Finals MVPs becoming one of the all-time greats we have ever seen in the game of basketball.

as.com

Who goes No. 2?

With Popvich’s familiarity with coaching foreign players and the franchise’s success with players overseas, there is almost no question that San Antonio will go with the towering Frenchman with the first overall pick. After that it’s essentially a toss up. The Hornets are the ones who are really under the most pressure tonight, because they have the second pick in the draft and with with guys like Scoot Henderson, Brandon Miller, the Thompson Twins and Anthony Black, they are going to have to make the right pick to start to turn the culture of the franchise around in Charlotte.

as.com

We are live from Barclays Center

Hello everyone and welcome to Brooklyn, New York where the focus has been centered around Victor Wembenyama in the days, weeks, and even years leading up to tonight’s main event. The seven foot frenchman with handles and a jumper has been on the top of everyone’s radar for the last few years, and tonight it is a virtual guaranteed that Gregg Popovic and the Spurs will jump at the chance to take him. After that we really aren’t sure who is going where, and that’s what fills Draft night with such excitement.
