Massive contracts are being handed out in the season of NBA Free Agency, and Karl-Anthony Towns will be one of the recipients.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are signing the 26-year-old to a four-year, $224 million contract extension, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Karl-Anthony Towns: Almost $300 million in six years

The agreement will start during the 2024-25 season and run through the 2027-2028 season. This will be on top of the $70 million that the franchise still has to pay him for the next two years, bringing his six-year contract value to $294 million.

Towns still had two years left on his agreement before the new one was drafted. He was scheduled to become a free agent in 2024, but the Timberwolves have locked him in for the long haul.

He led the team to a playoff appearance with an average of 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 blocks last season, where they eventually succumbed to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Karl-Anthony Towns: Locked into Minnesota

The three-time NBA All-Star was drafted by Minnesota as the first overall pick in the 2015 draft, and soon proved his worth, being named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2016.

The supermax deal confirms what Tom Brady referred to when he tweeted about Towns’ football skills. “I know the money is good but you’re playing the wrong sport bro,” the NFL legend wrote.

The contract also demonstrates the truth of the big man’s response, “You ain’t lying about the money.”
