Iverson salutes the GOAT Michael Jordan on his 62nd birthday
But Jordan received one particularly heartfelt message from one of his peers. Philadlephia 76ers legend Allen Iverson’s greeting posted on his Instagram page received almost 150,000 likes - 38,000 of them in the first hour after publish.
“Happy Birthday to the GOAT! The reason why the world knows Allen Iverson is because you gave me the vision. I always wanted to be like you! Thank you!! God bless and I wish you many more to come.” Iverson wrote.
While he never won an NBA title during his career, Iverson is still regarded as one of the best guards of all time. He spent 14 seasons in the league, spending time with the Grizzlies, Pistons and Nuggets but best known for his time in Philadelphia.
An 11-time All-Star, he ended his career averaging 26.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. He entered the Hall of Fame in 2016.
Iverson once described Jordan as “Black Jesus” and believes he is one of the few players from that era who would not only be able to adapt to the rigors of the modern game but “would average 40 points in today’s NBA.” Jordan is transcendent in that aspect. He would be the best in all eras. At least, that’s how Iverson sees him.
