NBA Playoffs: Doncic not underestimating the Suns

The Dallas Mavericks squeezed out one last win over the Jazz to advance to the second round of playoffs where they’ll face the Phoenix Suns.

Update:

A close game saw the Mavs getting the win over the Jazz on Thursday in game 6, giving them the series win and advancing them into the next round of playoffs when they’ll play the No. 1 Phoenix Suns.

The Mavericks were without Luka Doncic for the first three games, but still managed to win two without him. With him back in it, the Mavs are even more of a threat. But the Suns are the no. 1 team and they won’t be so easy to beat.

The Suns beat the New Orleans Pelicans 4-2 in the series, same as the Mavs and Jazz. They were without Devin Booker (hamstring injury) from game 2 until game 6, though he was still limited. They’ve got the likes of Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton to add to their threat as well. In game three, both players scored 28 points each.

In addition to superstar Doncic, the Mavs proved they can win with Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie, too. Not to mention, the Mavs defense has held opponents to just 109.1 points per 100 possessions in the regular season, sixth best in the league.

It will be a tough matchup on both sides, as these two teams are both full of talent, as long as they can stay healthy.

“It’ll be really difficult to play there and to win there,” said Doncic. “We have to play the same on defense. We have to prepare well.”

The first game of the series will be Monday, May 2 at 10 p.m. ET in Phoenix.
