New Orleans Pelicans vs Golden State Warriors live online: stats, scores and highlights | NBA

The Golden State Warriors came up with a critical come from behind win over the New Orleans Pelicans in a game that was packed with postseason implications. Steph Curry carried his team with 39 points in the Warriors 120-109 victory.

Warriors end Pelicans win streak

Both teams came into the night neck and neck in the Western Conference standings knowing that every game is going to be important from here on out, especially against teams that are fighting for the same playoff spots.

Golden State was coming off a rare home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves and were going up against a Pelicans team that entered the Chase Center as the hottest team in the league, after winning five straight games. New Orleans came out and landed the first blow in the opening 12 minutes.

Brandon Ingram had been on a tear in the last week and got the Pelicans going early, as the Warriors offense was fell flat through the first 12 minutes. They scored just five points in the final four minutes of the opening quarter, as the New Orleans built up an 11 point lead.

Green flagrant foul turned the tables

It didn’t get much better in the second quarter for the home side, who scored just 21 points and went into the halftime break with 14 turnovers. The Pelicans meanwhile went 9/14 from downtown in the opening 24 minutes and stretched the lead all the way to 20 points.

The only good thing that came out of the second quarter for the Warriors was a Draymond Green flagrant foul that seemed to reinvigorate Golden State and their fans. He and Brandon Ingram were involved in a scuffle after Green committed a hard foul on Ingram in transition. Both were given technicals, but Green was called for a flagrant after review.

The Warriors still went into to the halftime break down by 17, as their offense didn’t start clicking until the start of the third quarter. Donte DiVencenzo had a vicious tip slam on the first play of the second half, as the Warriors started the third quarter with an 8-0 run to fill the Chase Center with belief.

DiVencenzo sparks comeback

CJ McCollum picked up a flagrant of his own after barreling over Donte DiVecenzo and it seemed to have the opposite effect for his team as Green’s had for the Warriors. DiVencenzo hit both free throws after the flagrant and Klay Thompson hit a three to compete the five point play. From that point on the Warriors looked like the Warriors of old.

Curry had 13 in the third quarter and 22 in the second half, as Jordan Poole came to life with 15 second half points and the defense tightened up in the fourth quarter. Poole gave the Warriors their first lead since it was 5-2 early in the first quarter with a reverse lay up to make it 95-94 and Golden State would not give the lead back to the Pelicans. Ingram went scoreless in a fourth quarter that New Orleans scored just 20 points to end the game.

Curry ended the night with 39, 8, and 8 assists while Poole followed up with 21 to give the Warriors a massive win in the Western Conference playoff race. With the victory, they stay ahead of the Pelicans, and avoid losing the tie breaker New Orleans as they split the season series. There are two weeks to go and both of these teams have a lot of work to do to stay out of Play-In positioning.

GOLDEN STATE AT HOME

The Golden State Warriors have been two things this season. They are fantastic when at the Chase Center, but complete garbage when they have to hit the road. Despite their home loss to the T’Wolves over the weekend, they are 30-8 at home but just 9-29 on the road. This should cause some concern for Steve Kerr and the Warriors fans, because when the post season comes around they will have to play the majority of their games away from the Bay.

NBA West

How the West is looking

Taking a look at the Western Standings we see a cluster of teams who are in a sprint until the finish line. No one is safe, from the Suns in the 4th spot to the Mavs in 11th. Both Golden State and New Orleans would find themselves the Play-In Tournament if the season ended today. The Warriors are currently in 7th at 39-37, and the Pelicans sit right under them at 38-37. There are just 3.5 games that separate the 4 seed from the 11 seed, and with just over two weeks to go there will be plenty of movement on a nightly basis in the West.

as.com

No Zion, no problem

Brandon Ingram is a bad man. With no Zion Williamson, he has taken it upon himself to be the Pelicans main scoring option in the second half of the season. He is averaging right around 30 ppg in this five game stretch, and has led New Orleans scoring in each of the last four games. It’s no secret that the Pelicans need BI to lead them tonight, but Steve Kerr and the Warriors know that too.

as.com

Steph under the spotlight

The Warriors are coming off of a rare home loss and look for them to bounced back in the Bay tonight. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combined for just 35 points last game, which isn’t horrendous but if this team is going to have success down the stretch, the Splash Brothers know that they have to be the primary scorers in games like the one tonight.

as.com

BI with BIg performance for Pelicans

New Orleans rattled off their fifth straight win in a game that they led by 20 or more points for the final three quarters. Brandon Ingram and company flew out to a big lead after holding Portland to just 14 first quarter points and they would put it on cruise control for the rest of the game. Ingram led all scorers with 29 points and Jonas Valanciunas snagged 21 rebounds in the Pelicans blow out win over the Timberwolves.

as.com

Warriors lose it late

Every game is going to be big for the Warriors from now until the end of the season, and last weekend they took on another playoff hopeful in the Minnesota Timberwolves. The game went down to the wire in a game that the T’wolvs held on to the lead for almost all 48 minutes as Naz Ried’s 23 points paced the visitors. Reid was one of six Minnesota players in double digits as both Curry and Thompson had rare off nights at the Chase Center. It was Jordan Poole who kept the Warriors in the game, but a late Karl-Anthony Towns three ball handed a rare home loss to Golden State when they could least afford it.

We are live from the Bay Area

Hello everyone and welcome to the Chase Center where both he Warriors and the Pelicans are currently in Play-In Position, looking to move up the standings all the while hoping to avoid the 11 seed or worse in a jam packed middle of the Western Conference. The Warriors title defense season has had more valleys then peaks this season, but they have taken care of business at home all season and will have to do so again against a Pelicans team that is streaking. New Orleans has been without their super star Zion Williamson for the second half of the season, but that hasn’t stopped them from climbing the standings, and tonight they have a chance to leapfrog the Warriors with a win.
