No one seems able to slow down the San Antonio Spurs, or Victor Wembanyama. The team cruised past the Houston Rockets on Sunday, 145-120, securing their fourth straight victory. The win was built on another dominant performance from the French phenom, who finished with 29 points and 8 rebounds, despite making just two three-pointers.

Wemby’s performance earns high praise from Nuggets star

Wembanyama controlled the game against a Rockets team that never truly looked capable of challenging their in-state rivals. Not even strong scoring nights from Kevin Durant (23 points) and Amen Thompson (23) could match San Antonio’s dominance inside, where the Spurs piled up 56 points in the paint.

“He’s changing basketball,” said Nikola Jokic, center of the Denver Nuggets, about Wembanyama. “I’m glad I’ll probably retire before Wemby completely takes over the league.”

San Antonio has gone from being a struggling team not long ago to one of the contenders to lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy at the end of the season. The Spurs have won 15 of their last 16 games, with only the New York Knicks beating them since February 2.

It has been a spectacular month as San Antonio continues its pursuit of the Oklahoma City Thunder, leaders of the Western Conference. The Thunder can feel the pressure from a Spurs team who knows they cannot afford many mistakes if they want to overtake them.

With a 47-17 record, San Antonio sits just two and a half games back in the standings.
