Update:

The Oklahoma City Thunder have tied down NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on a new four-year deal that will keep him with the team through the 2030/31 season.

Gilgeous-Alexander was the star as the Thunder clinched the NBA Championship last month, picking up a number of personal accolades along with his first ring. SGA was the NBA MVP, Finals MVP and lead the league for scoring in both the regular season and postseason.

The 26-year-old has been handed a $285 million super maximum deal, which equates to an average annual salary of $71.25 million. That makes SGA the highest-paid player in NBA history.

Gilgeous-Alexander, commercial phenomenon

Since signing with the Thunder in 2019, Gilgeous-Alexander has been on a steady rise to become one of the league’s most influential stars. He has received the individual accolades that his talent deserves and is now one of the most marketable players in the game.

His most prominent endorsement agreement is with Converse, the Nike-owned sneaker brand who produce the footwear that SGA uses on the court. He is the star of their basketball division and was named creative director in 2024, a role that earns him $15 million per year on average. He also has deals with Skims and Canada Goose.

Earlier this year Sportico put his total endorsements at $18 million per year, more than the likes of James Harden, Jayson Tatum and Kyrie Irving.

Most impressively, SGA has managed this incredibly complex process himself, allowing him to maintain sole control of his career and the entirety of his earnings.

“I’m confident in my ability to do it,” Gilgeous-Alexander told Sportico. “It wasn’t entirely [about agent fees]. I want to be a well-rounded human being—not just a basketball player but a businessman, father and husband. I want to check all the boxes.”
