Nuggets 119 - 103 Warriors summary, stats, scores and highlights | NBA
Aaron Gordon put the icing on the cake with this alley oop jam to seal the Nuggets 7th straight win over the Warriors. The Warriors cut into a Nuggets lead that crept up to 16, and had a chance to bring Denver to within one possession but this steal from Jokic was one of the plays of the game on a night in which defense dominated. Golden State committed 17 turnover and that led to loads of fast break points on the other end.
Like Nikola Jokic said after the game, keeping the Warriors to 103 points at home is not an easy thing to do. Denver played fantastic defense to keep Curry to a quiet 20 points and Thompson scoreless in the second half after a 23 point first half. Jokic would go on to post another triple-double with 32, 16 and 16.
Jamal Murray was held quiet for the first quarter as Klay Thompson lit it up coming off the bench. He had 16 first quarter points and the Warriors would jump out to a 16 point lead in the second quarter, but Murray would come alive. He scored 14 points in the second quarter and led a 12-0 run that pulled the Nuggets back to level with the Warriors going into half.
Joker has a few inches and a whole lot of LBS on Draymond Green and Kevon Looney. He had his way in the paint. The Serbian got to the basket at will and when the defense collapses there is no one better at finding the open man.

Previous matchup
The Warriors haven’t beaten the Denver Nuggets since their championship winning season in 2022. They lost the three games against Jokic and company this season to stretch the streak to six straight games without a win over Denver. The last time these two teams met was in San Fran, and it was a game that went down to the final seconds. With the game tied at 127-127 Nikola Jokic threw up a prayer from half court and hit the game winner as the buzzer sounded to break the hearts of Warrior nation. Of the last six Nuggets wins, only one of those games was decided by more than 6 points.
NBA Standings
Taking a look at the standings, we see two teams coming into tonight in very different situations. If the season were to end tonight, the Warriors would be in the Play-In Tournament as the 10 seed and need to road wins just to get into the playoffs. They are a half game behind the Lakers in 9th and 3.5 games back of the Mavs who are currently holding the final automatic playoff spot. The Nuggets are in the hunt for the top seed, and even though they are in 4th, they are just two games back of the Western Conference leading Minnesota Timberwolves. Two of the three teams ahead of them are very young, and don’t know what it’s like to hold a slight lead in the standings at the end of the regular season, let alone make a deep run in the playoffs.
Birthday Boy is the talk of the town
The Warriors have had a decade of dominance with the same base of players. We all know the base of that team for the entirety of that run was Steph, Klay and Dray. That’s not the case anymore. There is a changing of the guard happening in the Bay as Steve Kerr is starting to incorporate the younger crop of talent. Jonathan Kuminga has been one of the breakout stars of the season, but it’s Brandon Podziemski who has broken into the starting five at the expense of Klay Thomson. Thompson has started the last three games on the bench as the rookie gets more and more comfortable in his new role. The Rookie is averaging 10 points, six rebound and 4 assists and brings an energy that this aging Warriors side needs.
MPJ, the matchup nightmare
There may not be another player in the NBA who is more important to his team than Nikola Jokic. Having said that, Jokic needs his supporting cast to be at full strength for him to be at his best. Michael Porter Jr. is one of those guys who we have seen take this team to the next level when he is healthy. His outside shooting and his ability to create mismatches on the offensive end was pivotal in the Nuggets title run, and this season he’s putting up similar numbers, posting 16.4 points and 7.1 rebounds. What’s even more important than his stats is the fact that he’s played in 56 of the Nuggets 57 games this season.
Nuggets last game
The Nuggets went to Portland to take on one of the leagues worst teams for a second straight game. After taking care of the Wizards at home, Denver went to Oregon to take on the Trail Blazers, and wouldn’t you know it, Nikola Jokic had another triple double. After making history against Washington becoming the third player to record a triple double against every team in the NBA, he posted 29, 15 and 14 on a night comfortable night in Portland. Denver went to the halftime break up 17 points, and cruised to the finish line from there.
Warriors last game
The Warriors rattled off their third straight win in a low scoring affair against the Charlotte Hornets. It was the defense that came out on top for the Warriors who held the visitors to just 29 points in the first half. Golden State didn’t do much better on the offensive end, going into the halftime break with just 43 points. Both teams gave the ball over way too often on top of having poor shooting night, but in the end Steph Curry and the Warriors were able to go wire to wire in what ended up being a comfortable win for Golden State. Curry led his side with 15 points on a night in which five different Warriors were in double digits.
We are live from the Bay
Hello everyone and welcome to San Fran where the Warriors are back home for a third straight game following the All-Star break and looking to continue their recent run of good form that has turned them in to the hottest team in the league. The Denver Nuggets may not look like the dominant force that they were at this point of the season last year, but they are still in prime position to make a run up the standings as they push to secure home court advantage as the playoffs draw closer. Both teams need a win tonight, but for very different reasons.
