Pacers 121 - 130 Knicks summary, stats, score and highlights | NBA Playoffs Game 2

Update:
The New York Knicks took a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Semifinal after their 130-121 win over the Indiana Pacers from Madison Square Garden.

Jalen Brunson didn't comment too much about his sore foot that kept him out of the second quarter, all he said was he was happy he did. The Knicks found a way to win despite seeing two of their top scorers go down at different times. Brunson had his 40 points streak snapped, but you know he'd much rather the win.

Donte DiVencenzo was fantastic on Wednesday, and the Knicks need it. Brunson was sidelined for the second quarter, and OG Anunoby had to leave the game in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. Anunoby had to sit out the rest of the game, and the Knicks will have to wait for more tests to determine a return date.

New York took care of business at home, winning two tight games that went down to the wire. The Pacers return home needing a win under their home roof in Game 3 on Friday night.

After the scare in the second quarter, Brunson came back and had a massive second half. He dropped 25 points coming out of the break, and was the catalyst for the Knicks in the fourth quarter.

Donte DiVencenzo continuously comes up with big shots in the playoffs. He helped New York come back at the beginning of the third quarter and had some big shots late. The Big Ragu ended the night with 28 points and went 6/12 from three.

The Knicks saw their leader and top scorer get sidelined with what the doctors called a sore foot. Brunson missed the second quarter and naturally the Knicks fell behind. The Pacers took a double digit lead into halftime after a brilliant first half from Tyrese Haliburton who finished the night with 34 and 9 assists.

The New York Knicks took a two game series lead over the Indiana Pacers, but needed to battle back in the second half after a couple of injury scares. Jalen Brunson was one of those guys that gave Knicks nation a scare, but came back to the floor and finished the night with 29 points.

Jalen Brunson came into Game 2 on a four game streak of scoring 40 or more, looking to join Jerry went as the only players to stretch the streak to five games. He may not have reached 40, but he was heroic at the Garden, yet again.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM THE GARDEN!

as.com

New York's starters

The Knicks starters scored almost all the points in Game 1. They are going to have to be just as good tonight, especially down low since MItchell Robinson is going to miss the rest of the series. It's Brunson, DiVencenzo and Hart, with Anunoby and Hartenstein to begin Game 2 from NY.

as.com

Pacers starter

The Pacers are going to need to get out to a hot start to control the emotion and energy of the Garden. Rick Carlisle is going with his best five to start. It's Haliburton running the show, with Nembhard and Neismith in the back court and Siakam and Turner down low.

as.com

Brunson's 40 points streak

What Jalen Brunson is doing in this playoff run is simply remarkable. He’s putting up playoffs numbers that earn his name on lists of league legends. In the first round, he became the second player to score 40 and dish 10 assists in two straight playoff games since Oscar Robertson. Since the end of last round and into this round, Brunson has scored 40 points in four straight games. The only other players to reach that feat in the playoffs were Michael Jordan, Bernard King and Jerry West. I just hope that everyone is appreciating what we are witnessing with this kid. He is a sensation that is going to be among the leagues best stars, but let’s just enjoy the ride before he gets the world renown recognition that he so much deserves.

as.com

Refs got it wrong

The NBA has admitted it. There were mistakes made in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal in New York. The acknowledgment does the Pacers very little in terms of consolation. Four calls were deemed incorrect at the end of the game, including the kick ball on Aaron Neismith that never was. By rule the kick ball is not a reviewable play, so the Pacers had to deal with the decision by the refs. Just a few seconds later there was an offensive foul called on Myles Turner that was questionable. The NBA backed up that decision made on the court and later reviewed at the table. The Pacers kept that game close until the end, and might feel that their Game 1 loss was unjust seeing the admission of incorrect calls from the league. Tonight they will have to rebound, but will be hoping that they have to just beat the Knicks and not the guys in the gray shirts too.

Ty-ing it up

A lot of people came into this series salivating at the proposition of the battle that awaited us at the point guard position. Tyrese Haliburton and Jalen Brunson going head to head. There wasn’t much of a battle. Haliburton had just 6 points and 8 assists in the loss, and it was his teammates that carried him for most of the game. He struggled in the first round as well. Patrick Beverly gave him fits, despite the Pacers winning that series 4-1. Even with their PG and one of their best players not playing well, they eased through the first series and were in the game until the end in New York on Monday night. Tonight, and for th rest of the series he is going to have to be the best player on the court for Rick Carlisle’s guys.

Brunson burning

As I was sitting and watching Jalen Brunson play the other day, I was shocked by one thing. It’ wasn’t his handles, or his jumper, or his ability to make the other player around him better. What shocked me was that I expect Brunson to put up 30, or 40 every time he steps on the court. That sort of expectance only comes with great players. Kobe had 30? Of course he did, he’s Kobe? MJ dropped 35? Makes sense. He’s the GOAT. But Jalen Brunson has transcended into that kind of a player. I’m not saying he’s Kobe or MJ, or even at their level yet. He’d have to play the way he’s been playing over the last two weeks for the next decade. What I am saying, is that Brunson has quickly climbed the NBA ladder, and is now one of the future faces of the league. What better place to have a super star than in New York?

Game 1 recap

Even though it’s been a decade since the Pacers have been this deep in the playoffs, but this young team didn’t show an ounce of nerves, on the road, in Game 1 from Madison Square Garden. Indiana used a balanced attack on the offensive end, led by Pascal Siakam’s 23 points and the Pacers bench which outscored the Knicks 44-3. But, the Knicks have Jalen Brunson, and Brunson showed up like he has been doing all post season for New York. The Pacers led by as many as 9 in the 4th in a game that went back and forth throughout, but Brunson was saving the best for last. He scored 21 in the final quarter, and with the assistance of a few questionable calls, it was New York who pulled the Game 1 win off in MSG.
