Paul Pierce insists he had a better career than Dwayne Wade

It’s clear that both Paul Pierce and Dwayne Wade are basketball legends of the 21st century, but who had the more successful NBA career?

In 2019, a sports TV show on ESPN discussed who had a better basketball career between, Paul Pierce and Dwyane Wade. During the show, Pierce, a Celtics legend, believed he was more successful than Wade and felt that the public only remembered his time as a teammate of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo.

However, Jalen Rose, a former NBA player, and current analyst, countered Pierce’s argument with statistical data, which has since become an internet meme.

Despite this, Pierce still believes he had a better career than Wade.

He was recently a guest on the show of the legendary New York rapper Cameron, and the same topic was brought up again.

Put Shaq on my team; put LeBron and Bosh with me. I’m not going to win one? You don’t think? Who was the better three-point shooter – him or me? Who is the better three-point shooter? Is he a better scorer? Okay, he averaged more points than me for his career, but I can shoot the three mid-range, I can post up, and I can get to the line. Who’s a better scorer? My skills went unappreciated because I didn’t get to play with a lot of great players.” he said. Pierce.

It seems that Pierce may be downplaying the abilities of his former Celtics teammates. He played alongside some incredibly talented individuals, including Kevin Garnett, who could arguably be considered a part of a borderline superteam. Although Pierce and Garnett helped lead the Celtics to a championship victory in 2008, they could not repeat this accomplishment, unlike Dwyane Wade, who won three titles during his time with the Heat.

Wade vs. Pierce stat comparison;

  • NBA titles: Wade 3, Pierce 1
  • All-Star appearances: Wade 13, Pierce 10
  • All-NBA first lineup - Wade 2, Pierce 0
  • Selection in any of the three best All-NBA lineups – Wade 8, Pierce 4
  • All-NBA defense lineup – Wade 3, Pierce 0
  • All-NBA top scorer - Wade 1, Pierce 0
