Philadelphia 76ers 126 vs 133 Dallas Mavericks summary: stats and highlights | NBA
The Dallas Mavericks finally gave their fans the performance they had been waiting for ever since Kyrie Irving came to town during the trade deadline. He and Luka Doncic combined for 82 points in the 133-126 shootout victory over the Philadelphia 76ers from American Airlines Center.
No dream start for Dallas Duo
Days were dark in the first five games that superstar Kyrie Irving shared the court with his superstar teammate, Luka Doncic. Dallas lost four of their first five, and there seemed to be more questions then answers as the league’s newest power couple struggled to find any cohesion.
On Thursday night in Dallas, that is exactly what they had. It seemed as though Kai and Luka were forcing the issue over the first few games together, trying to get each other the ball, and not trying to step on one and other’s toes. Against the Sixers, they let the game come to them and it resulted in the best night of the new Dallas Duo era.
Irving had a quick 10 points in the first six minutes of the game and Doncic got going to the tune of 17 points in the opening quarter, but James Harden had the Sixers on the Mavs heels. He scored 16 points and dished seven assists going into the second quarter as the stars were shining bright in Big D.
Dallas downs Philly in third
Luka and Irving continued to pour it on, but had trouble stoping the Sixers on the defensive end, which is nothing new for Jason Kidd’s team. They went into halftime up by four, but came out of the halftime break scorching from downtown. They hit their first five shots and started the second half hitting 9/10 threes to take a 25 point lead that they almost blew at the start of the fourth quarter.
Philly scored the first 16 points of the quarter to dwindle the 19 point Mavs lead down to four just minutes into the last quarter. Kyrie would live up to his reputation as the best fourth quarter scorer in the league, and took over the game in route to a 40 point night. Doncic poured in another 42 as the Mavs fought off the Sixers comeback bid getting a much needed victory to calm the nerves in Mavs nation.
It’s just a first glimpse of what these two, and this team is capable of but for the first time since Kyrie came to town there is more cause for excitement than concern in Dallas.
Together Doncic and Kyrie went for 82 points and 18 assists in the Mavs second win with those two on the floor together.
The Mavs went nuts from three point range out of the gate in the third quarter. They hit their first five shots, and went 9/10 from downtown to start the second half.
For the first time since these two teams joined forces, Kyrie and Luka looked like they were letting the game come to them instead of having trying to split up the shots evenly.
Doncic opened the game with 17 points in the first quarter to set the tone in a high flying, fast paced game on Thursday night.
The Mas hit 8/11 threes in the first half, but they were just getting warmed up for the onslaught in the third quarter.
There were a lot of doubts about Kyrie and Luka playing on the same team after a 1-4 start, but on Thursday night they might have started to change some minds.

Jason Kidd is going back to his Starting 5 from the last few games. Let's see if they can give the Mavs a much needed home win tonight.
Slow start for Kyrie
It has been far from the dream start for Kyrie Irving in Dallas. The Mavs won the first two games in which Irving debuted, but since then things haven’t been going to plan. Luka Doncic came back from injury, but that seems to have only complicated things for Jason Kidd’s squad. The former Brooklyn Net is averaging 24.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 rebounds since joining the Mavs.
NCAA News
The Mavs-Sixers is a showcase matchup in the NBA, but in case you want to witness history you should flip over to the NCAA where Antoine Davis is on the verge of breaking Pistol Pete's all time record.
NBA standings
Taking a lot at the standing in the East the Sixers sit at 40-21, which is good enough for third in the conference, but still 4.5 back of the leaders, the Milwaukee Bucks. They have a solid grasp on a top four spot, leading the fourth placed Cavs by 3 games and the Knicks by 4.5 games. The Mavs are sinking down the standings in the West after losing five of their last six games. They are in seveth place, and if the season ended today they would have to get through the Play-In Tournament to make the playoffs. They are just two games behind the Suns in 4th, but are only two games ahead of the Lakers who are in 11th and would miss the Play-In Tournament.
Maxey’s time to shine
Sure Joel Embiid is an MVP candidate, James Harden may be the league lead in assists this season, but it’s Tyrese Maxey that’s going to make the difference for this team down the stretch and in the playoffs. Embiid is going to get his, Harden will be Harden but the Sixers need another scorer to rely on in big games, and Maxey has shown he can be that guy.
Luka still looking for answers
Time is running out for the Dallas Mavericks. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have not exactly meshed as it was hoped in Big D, but there is still time to right the ship. Doncic may have had 39 points last game, but he and Kyrie have a lot of room for improvement over the next month and some change if they want to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Sixers didn't miss Embiid last game
The Sixers went into Miami having lost two straight, and were without one of the league’s MVP candidates, Joel Embiid. Tyreese Maxey led the way with 27 points in the Sixers blowout with over the Heat. It was the defense that did the trick for Philly, holding Miami to just 15 points in the second quarter and extended their lead to 25. The defense held the Heat at an arms length and cruised to victory to stay at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Mavs last game
Another game that goes down to the wire, and another Mavs loss. That seems to be the trend ever since Kyrie and Luka have joined forces in Big D. Luka Doncic seemed extra motivated and was even seen jawing at the Paces bench, which features his old coach Rick Carlisle. He dropped 39 points, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback on Indiana who led for most of the second half. The Mavs had a chance to win the game, but Kyrie Irving missed the game wining three as the buzzer sounded
We are live from Big D
Hello everyone and welcome to Dallas where the Mavs are desperate for a win after the first few games that featured both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. It was though that the midseason trade would propel them up the standings and make them into immediate title contenders. That has been the farthest thing from reality, and tonight they have a chance to get their first big win with their Big Two. The Sixers have had their big two for almost two years now, and are hoping that this is the year that Embiid and Harden push Philly back to the Finals.
