Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly agreed on a two-year contract extension and it will be worth $97.1 million. The Ohio-borned superstar’s contract is guaranteed until the end of 2024 and James will become the highest-earning player in NBA history with a total career earnings worth $532 million.

Lebron James will turn 40-years-old by the end of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and he is still owed $44.5 million for the upcoming season. This new contract could rise up to $111 million if the league’s salary cap continues to increase and he will become a free agent when his son Bronny becomes draft-eligible.

Lebron’s goal is to play with his son in the NBA

Back in February, Lebron James was asked which team he would like to retire and he told The Athletic the following: “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year.” So in the final year of his contract extension with the Lakers, there is a clause that if the Los Angeles NBA franchise drafts Bronny, then James will stay one more year.

Lebron James will also have the option to opt out from his final year of his contract and sign with the team that drafted his son, in case that happens. So the 18-time All-Star is covered in all bases and he continues to defy mother nature because he will be 40-years-old when his son enters the league in his freshman year.
