Update:

Reigning NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder have made an imperious start to their title defense, going 20-1 at the beginning of the new season.

The Thunder brought up the 20th win of 2025/26 with a 123-115 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers over the weekend. Reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put up 26 points in the win, keeping his incredible scoring streak alive.

That 26-point showing was the 93rd consecutive game in which SGA has scored at least 20 points. In doing so he moves up to second in the all-time list of most consecutive 20+ point games.

Gilgeous-Alexander overtakes Wilt Chamberlain, who put together 92 consecutive 20+ point games from 1963-64. The Thunder star is now in second place and there’s only one name ahead of him: Wilt Chamberlain.

The current NBA record streak for 20+ point games is an astonishing 126 games, set by Chamberlain from 1961-63. That 60-year-old record was considered unbreakable but the relentless form of SGA has put Chamberlain’s tally in sight, and it could even be broken this season.

Going into Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Gilgeous-Alexander is 33 games short of the record. With 61 games remaining in the regular season, the 27-year-old star could write his name into the record books before the season is out.

With such incredible output, Gilgeous-Alexander admitted recently that he had had to re-frame his expectations going into games.

He explained: “There was a point where I got 30 and thought it was a good game. Now if I have 30, it’s a bad game... I mean it’s below my average.”
