Update:

The Warriors are in survival mode this year. A promising 4-1 start offered fleeting hope, but reality quickly set in. Like all things, greatness eventually fades. The remnants of the NBA’s last true dynasty are no exception. Seven championships in seven years showed Golden State’s dominance, but now that era is behind them.

With an average age of 29.5, Steve Kerr’s roster is the third-oldest in the league, behind the Kings and Clippers, the latter holding the record for the oldest team ever. The wear and tear is obvious. Legs tire, consistency is rare, and the team increasingly feels like a collection of past legends. Klay Thompson is no longer himself in Dallas, Chris Paul’s brief tenure is over, and now the core Warriors veterans are aging: Steph Curry at 37, Jimmy Butler 36, Draymond Green 35, Buddy Hield 33, Gary Payton III 33, and Al Horford joining this season to… keep the average high. The irony is that the older players are often the ones performing best, especially Curry, who continues to write history even as the team around him struggles.

Warriors face struggling Jazz at Chase Center

Golden State hosted the Utah Jazz at the Chase Center after losing three straight games to the Magic, Heat, and Trail Blazers. Signs of fatigue were visible, with Steve Kerr openly acknowledging the team’s exhaustion and tensions bubbling beneath the surface of what was never a perfect locker room chemistry.

The Jazz offered an ideal opportunity for a win. Coming off two consecutive losses to the Lakers, including a home defeat in Salt Lake City, Utah is a team without clear direction. The Warriors needed a bounce-back victory to get back above .500 before a stretch of home games against the Rockets, Pelicans, and Thunder.

Curry leads the charge in dominant win

The Warriors delivered, defeating Utah 134-117 to move to 10-9 on the season. Curry was sensational, taking shots from every corner of the court and finishing 12 of 24 from the field, including 6 of 17 from three-point range. He stayed mostly on the perimeter, avoiding the wear-and-tear of driving into contact.

Supporting Curry were Buddy Hield with 20 points on 4 of 8 from deep, Moses Moody with 15, and Jimmy Butler with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. Curry’s best news: he played fewer than 30 minutes. For the Jazz, Keyonte George led the way with 28 points, including 4 of 8 from three.

Golden State’s second and third quarters were decisive, outscoring Utah 41-20 and 39-29, creating a 26-point lead that allowed for a comfortable finish.

In the end, Curry carried what remains of Golden State’s dynasty, keeping them afloat as they navigate a grueling season. The question now is how long the veteran-heavy roster can hold up.
