Stephen A. Smith shocking admission after Bronny James career high night
The Los Angeles Lakers sat Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves on Thursday night, but that opened the door for Bronny James to have a career night.
Bronny James silenced a lot of his critics on Thursday night when he put up a career high 17 points in the Los Angeles Lakers loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Stephen A. Smith has been one of his harshest critics, but he did not remained silent.
Lakers lose, Bronny wins
The Lakers played the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night, but LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves all sat out on the second end of a back-to-back. That cleared the stage for Bronny James to step to the mic and deliver a career high 17 point night in 30 minutes on the court.
Stephen A. Smith, who has not shied away from throwing shade at Bronny when ever he has had a chance admitted on Friday morning that he might have been wrong.
“I might have been wrong” said Smith on ESPN’s First Take. “Are you listening LeBron James? Are you listening James Family? Are you listening, Rich Paul?”
Smith “always believed”
Smith singled out LeBron and his agent after he was confronted by Bronny’s dad in the Lakers game against the Knicks last week. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer went face to face with SAS and told him to stop talking about his son.
Smith doesn’t usually is known for his larger than life personality and his “hot takes” which generally evoke some sort of emotion from his audience. He has been largely critical of Bronny, and the performance on Thursday may having him admitting he “might have been wrong” but he still managed to say pat himself on the back.
“Let him be in the G League his first year. And then after that, let him come on because I’ve always believed that this kid has the potential,” said Smith.
Bronny season high in minutes and points
Bronny has split time with the Lakers and their G-League team the South Bay Lakers. In the G-League he is averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in nine games. He doesn’t get as many minutes on a stacked Lakers side. He averages just over five minutes a game, 2.3 points and less than a rebound and an assist a game.
“But what I saw last night made me say to myself, wait a minute. He keeps showing up and playing like that. J.J. Redick and his staff obviously doing an exceptional job coaching him.”
Thursday night was the most Bronny played in his rookie year, and he showed out with a career high. He played a season high 30 minutes and it was just the fourth time all season he played more than 10 minutes. Bronny talked about ignoring critics before the game against the Bucks, and now it’s going to be hard for the critics to ignore him.
