Steve Kerr on Warriors loss to Pacers: “That’s on me”

Steph Curry had his worst game of the season when the Warriors played the Pacers, while Indy rookie Andrew Nembhard put up 31 points.

Update:

The Golden State Warriors lost 112-104 to the Indiana Pacers on Monday night while Steph Curry played his worst game so far this season. He finished with just 12 points on 3-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-10 from three. Meanwhile, Pacers rookie Andrew Nemnhard finished with 31 points, 13 assists, and eight rebounds on five 3-pointers, all of which were his career-highs so far.

Pacers snap Warriors’ winning streak

The loss broke a 10-game winning streak for Golden State. Their defense, without Andrew Wiggins, looked as poor as their offense. When asked what was most disappointing for head coach Steve Kerr, he replied that it was the offensive execution, but admitted that they played poorly all around and blamed himself for not preparing his team on how to counterattack.

“The game was scattered, and they were getting to the rim quite a bit,” said Kerr. “And our defense wasn’t great, we didn’t attack in a great way. We didn’t adapt and adjust to the way they were guarding us, and that’s on me.”

Oddly enough, the Warriors played their best when Curry was sitting on the sidelines at the beginning of the second and fourth quarters. Jonathan Kuminga added 10 points and four rebounds off the bench and Anthony Lamb had a team-best +14 plus/minus. Klay Thompson tied up the game in the second quarter after hitting a three, but the Pacers just kept getting ahead of them.

“I thought they did a good job on Steph, trapping him,” said Kerr. “They’ve got some long, athletic bigs. They switched and trapped quite a bit on the perimeter, and just tried to keep him off the three-point line as much as they could.”

The Warriors will head to Utah to play the Jazz on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).
