Suns burn Pelicans out of playoffs in Game 6, advance to semis vs. Mavericks
The Phoenix Suns rode on the perfect game of Chris Paul to eliminate the New Orleans Pelicans in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series.
The Phoenix Suns have closed out the opening round of the NBA playoff series with a 115-109 Game 6 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans to advance to the semifinals.
Phoenix had to come back from a 10-point deficit to eliminate the Pelicans from contention and round out the series 4-2.
Chris Paul: Point god
12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul delivered perfectly from the field, shooting 14-for-14 as he tallied 33 points, eight assists, and five rebounds.
Paul made history by sinking the most shots without missing in an NBA playoff game. Only Wilt Chamberlain has made a higher number of perfect shots, once going 16-for-16, another time 18-for-18, but both were achieved in the regular season.
Booker is back
It was a much-needed boost for the Suns, who had missed star player Devin Booker for three and a half games after he was saddled with a hamstring injury. He powered through it in Game 6, but only managed 13 points.
The star shooting guard did come through at a crucial moment, shooting a three-pointer that pulled them ahead for good. Booker, who had not played since he hurt his leg in game 2, also delivered five rebounds and three assists.
Deandre Dayton contributed 22 points on 10-for-12 shooting.
Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with a score of 21 points and 11 assists.
The Suns will go up against the Dallas Mavericks for Game 1 of the second round of the NBA playoffs on Monday in Phoenix.
