How the West is shaping up
Taking a look at the standings in the Western Conference, we see the Suns surging up the table after their six game win streak. They have won seven of their last ten and now sit sixth, five games back from the conference leading T’Wolves, Thunder and Nuggets. They are a half game back of the Pelicans and 3.5 games behind the Clippers who would have home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, if the season ended today. The Mavs’ slide has dunked them down the table all the way to 8th in the West. They are just a game behind the Suns and hold a three game lead over the Lakers and Jazz, but as last season showed Dallas can plummet in a hurry.
Kyire out, Luka in
The Mavericks took a chance on Kyrie Irving in the middle of last season, and so far the experiment with him and Luka Doncic has yet to start boiling. They plummeted down the standings at the end of last season to miss the playoffs and the Play-In Tournament. This year they looking a little more fluid, but a lot of the time it just doesn’t seem like there are enough basketballs on the court for both Kyrie and Luka. That won’t be a problem against the Suns considering Kyrie is out, and Luka will play after they both came into tonight questionable. Luka has been suffering from lower back tightness and Kyrie has a sprained thumb.
Nurkic on the rise
While plenty of credit deservedly goes to Devin Booker, KD and Bradley Beal in the Suns recent success, we shouldn’t overlook Jusef Nurkic and his production down in the paint. The Suns dealt away DeAndre Ayton to make room for Bradley Beal, and as a substitute they brought in the Bosnian from the Clippers. Nurkic is a top 10 rebounder and posting 12 points a game which is just about the same numbers that Ayton is posting in Portland.
Mavs last game
The Mavs are coming off a Monday night matchup with the top team in the league, the Boston Celtics. The C’s were on the second end of the back to back and unlike their game against the Milwaukee Bucks a few years ago they came out ready on the back end of two straight games. The Mavericks to a slight lead in the first quarter, but Boston went ahead early in the second and never looked back. Luke Doncic put up 33, dragged down 18 rebounds and dished 13 assists, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Mavs in the game as Jason Tatum lead Boston with 39 points to hand Dallas their 4th loss in the last six.
Suns last game
Phoenix hosted the Chicago Bulls and kept their win streak alive on Monday night, but it didn’t come easy. The Bulls jumped out to a 19 point lead early in the first quarter, and the Suns spent the rest of the way trying to claw back into the game. It wasn’t until the 5:33 mark in the fourth quarter when the Suns got their first lead of the game, and for the rest of the final five and a half the lead went back and fourth until Kevin Durant drilled the game winning shot with 1.1 on the clock. Durant had 43 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists in the win, and had to do most of the heavy lifting with Bradley Beal scoring 18 points and Devin Booker being held to just 16.
We are live from AA Center
Hello everyone and welcome to Dallas where the Mavericks are looking to rebound after a tough loss to the top team in the league, the Boston Celtics. The C’s handed Luka and the Mavs their fourth loss in the last six and now Dallas find themselves sliding down the table and having to host the Pho4nix Suns who are on a six game win streak. The Suns might have a star studded roster, but it has taken them a few months to start hitting stride. Kevin Durant and Booker are beginning to click, and the Suns have benefited by climbing up the Western Conference. Tonight they have a chance to extend their win streak tonight against a Mavs side that will be hoping to stop their slide.
