Teammate breaks down Luka Doncic: “It looks easy to play with him, but it’s not”
Slovenia teammate Klemen Prepelic reveals what it’s like to play alongside Doncic and why he’s ready to lead the Lakers.

Luka Doncic has long been considered one of basketball’s generational talents, a status he cemented during six-and-a-half seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. During that time, he won the 2019 Rookie of the Year award and earned five NBA All-Star nominations.
Doncic’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers in February sent shockwaves around the league, although NBA fans are now accustomed to seeing the Slovenian wearing purple and gold.
Early impact with the Lakers
The 26-year-old produced some standout moments alongside LeBron James in his first few months with the Lakers. But despite their star power, the duo was unable to take Los Angeles past the first round of the playoffs, falling convincingly to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

With James now in his fifth decade, the keys to the franchise have been handed to Doncic, who returned for his first full season in Los Angeles in remarkable physical shape after following a rigorous offseason fitness plan.
EuroBasket shows readiness
Doncic reaped the rewards in this summer’s EuroBasket, where his performances showed he is ready to lead the Lakers to their first NBA championship since 2020.
Slovenia teammate Klemen Prepelic shared his perspective in an interview with AS, offering insight into what it is like to play alongside Doncic and what he believes the star guard could achieve.
A demanding leader
“Luka has a tough character,” Prepelic said. “On the court, it looks easy to play alongside him, but it is not. He always wants to win, gives everything, and expects the same from his teammates. He pushes everyone to their limits so they at least have a chance to win. Now 26, with a decade of professional experience, not many players can say that at his age. He is ready to be an MVP and an NBA champion. He’s on the most storied franchise in basketball history, playing alongside a player who could be the greatest ever. The team believes in him, and that matters most.”
Rising above criticism
Prepelic was also asked about Doncic’s physical transformation and whether the guard had been affected by prior criticism over his fitness.
“Yes. He was already spectacular, but at EuroBasket it was clear: you cannot defend against him. It’s impossible. Everyone sees the strength he has. He averaged 35 points per game in the tournament, an incredible feat that he makes look effortless. Luka Doncic is simply the best in the world.”
