The best NBA rookies to draft for your fantasy team
With the start of the NBA season here, we look at the top rookie players you should think about drafting for your fantasy team
With the NBA 2022-23 season now upon us, thoughts for millions of fans turn to the fantasy draft. There are some impressive rookies out there this season and we take a look at who you should be considering for your lineup.
Paolo Banchero
Orlando Magic
The top of anyone’s watch list should be the number one overall draft pick this year. He is an early favorite to win Rookie of the Year and will likely start for the Magic after Chet Holmgren’s season-ending injury.
Jabari Smith
Houston Rockets
A favorite for the top draft slot, he fell to third and went to the Rockets. If he were with a better team, he might be the top rookie to draft, but even playing for Houston, he is expected to put up serious numbers this season.
Keegan Murray
Sacramento Kings
Leapfrogging Jaden Ivey in the draft brought Murray to the limelight and he has not shown signs of shying away from it, putting up the kind of numbers in the NBA Summer League that won him the MVP award. He might not be so dominant against big NBA competition but still has the tools to be a fantasy sleeper.
Jaden Ivey
Detroit Pistons
Perhaps the best prospect of last year’s draft class, Ivey had some injury trouble which brought his stock lower than expected. Even so, he looks like a long-term backcourt partner for Cade Cunningham and can form a solid base to your lineup.
Bennedict Mathurin
Indiana Pacers
Of all the rookies, Benn is most likely to start this season, giving him ample opportunity to replicate his success at Arizona, where he averaged 17.7 points per game. In the Summer League, he upped this to 19.3 ppg and was 48.8% on rebounds. He will be a solid member of any fantasy squad.
