Will Chet Holmgren play in the 2022-23 NBA season?
Hours after news leaked about his ligament problems, the worst has been confirmed: Chet Holmgren, number 2 in the draft, will miss the entire NBA season.
It’s official: Chet Holmgren, number 2 overall pick in the last NBA draft, will miss the entire 2022-23 season.
The player selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder was one of the biggest attractions of the last litter of promising youngsters who reached the world’s most prestigious basketball league.
He injured the ligaments in his right foot and will not be able to make his debut in the NBA regular season, which will start on Tuesday, October 19. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the 20-year-old suffered a Lisfranc injury.
What is a Lisfranc injury?
The injury that the rookie suffered affects the bones and/or ligaments in the middle part of the foot, where the cartilage covering the bones is damaged. If the damage is severe, surgery will be necessary.
According to Cedars-Sinai, this injury is not very common, and often causes arthritis in the injured foot bones. This is a potential cause of chronic pain, with the arthritis possibly developing even if the initial operation was successful.
Other NBA stories:
This development is a great misfortune for what was to be the new unicorn of the league- a physically unique basketball player never seen before who stands at seven feet but weighs less than 200 pounds.
This is also a big blow to the Thunder, who are in the middle of a rebuild. They were hoping to include the Gonzaga alum in a core of players that would serve as the team’s pillars, but now he will now lose out on time to build chemistry as a unit.
Holmgren sustained the injury at a pro-am game against the Los Angeles Lakers, while he was defending against LeBron James.
