Update:

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future has been the subject of much speculation in the NBA offseason, with the two-time MVP reportedly still undecided about whether to stick with the Bucks or bring his 12-year spell in Milwaukee to an end.

Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, NBA insider Shams Charania explained “nothing was set in stone” regarding the 30-year-old’s future and that Antetokounmpo is continuing to have “real conversations with his inner circle” about what’s best for him at this stage of his career.

How Giannis will decide his NBA future

The Greek Freak’s decision, according to Charania will be made based on one factor: how well set up the Bucks are for Giannis to win a second NBA championship in either of the next two seasons.

“The one big question that’s surrounding Antetokounmpo and his camp is: can he win another championship?” Charania claims. “Is this Bucks roster built for this upcoming season or for 2026-27 for him to win another championship? We know how bad he wants to win a second championship.

“Only Giannis Antetokounmpo can make that determination.”

Multiple teams waiting for Antetokounmpo decision

If it wasn’t already clear by now, the power forward “clearly wants to do it in his own time.”

However, he won’t be short of suitors if he decides his future lies away from the Bucks, and Charania believes the saga could draw on for a few weeks yet, citing Kyrie Irving (to the Celtics) and Damian Lillard (to the Bucks) as examples of superstar players who have switched teams late in the summer.

“There are multiple teams I know of that are literally waiting right now on what decision Giannis Antetokounmpo makes,” reports the ESPN journalist. “Training camps don’t start until mid-September, and there have been examples in the past of deals that happen late in summer.”
