Update:

The Minnesota Timberwolves and franchise legend Kevin Garnett have finally reached an agreement to retire his iconic No. 21 jersey, ESPN reports. The ceremony will take place within the next two seasons, ending years of tension between the two sides.

T-Wolves legend accepts new role

Garnett, who retired in 2016, began his NBA career with the Timberwolves in 1995 and spent 14 of his 21 seasons in Minnesota. For years, he resisted having his number retired due to a long-standing conflict with former team owner Glen Taylor.

That stalemate ended after the team was sold this past June to a group that includes former MLB star Alex Rodriguez. With the ownership change, Garnett has agreed not only to the jersey retirement but also to serve as an ambassador for the franchise.

Garnett’s legacy in Minnesota

Garnett is the only Timberwolves player to win an NBA MVP (2004). He holds nearly every major franchise record, including games played, points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

He also led Minnesota to the playoffs in eight straight seasons, though he never won a championship with the Wolves.

Garnett eventually captured his lone NBA title in his first season with the Boston Celtics in 2008. He later returned to Minnesota for his final campaign in 2015–16 before retiring.

Over his career, Garnett played 1,462 games, averaging 17.8 points and 10 rebounds per game.
