Doncic out, Flagg in
Just two seasons ago, they were battling for a championship in the Finals, ultimately falling to the Boston Celtics. But with the departure of Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic, the landscape has shifted dramatically in the Western Conference.
Last season, the Mavs were bounced from the Play-In Tournament after a 120-106 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, led by a dominant performance from Ja Morant. Dallas finished 10th in the West with a 39-43 record - far from the heights they reached just a couple of years ago.
In a major step toward the future, Dallas landed the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft and selected Cooper Flagg out of Duke University. The rookie forward joins a roster that already includes two other former Blue Devils: Kyrie Irving and Dereck Lively II.
Flagg made his much-anticipated debut in the NBA Summer League, helping the Mavericks to edge out the Los Angeles Lakers 87-85. The rookie posted a solid stat line with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and a block.
Meanwhile, Irving continues to recover from a torn ACL, prompting the Mavericks to bring in veteran guard D’Angelo Russell to help stabilize the backcourt.
