Western Conference Standings
Taking a look at the Western Conference standings, we see the Thunder coming in to tonight as the one seed with a record of 42-18. They have a half game lead on the Timberwolves and the Nuggets who have been surging up the standings of late. The Lakers are a long way from the race for first place, sitting in 10th, 10 games back of OKC. They come into tonight tied with the Warriors, at 10 games back, but are behind Golden State because of a tiebreaker. The Lakers will try to avoid the Play-In at all costs, but to do so they are going to have to make up some ground. Things are tight in the Play-In race and only 2.5 games separates the 6th placed Kings and the 10th placed Lakers. While the top 10 teams look pretty locked in, it’s going to be a mad dash to the finish line for the teams hoping to avoid the 7-10 seeds.
Time to Shai-n
It’s been mentioned, and even suggested that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander should be an MVP contender. For some reason the national media are hesitant to put him at the forefront of this race, and it makes no sense. For me, SGA is the leading MVP candidate at this point of the season. Since Joel Embiid went down with an injury, SGA has filled his shoes has the best player in the league. He is the second leading scorer in the league, behind Luka Doncic, getting 31.2 ppg and had led the Thunder from a 40-42 record to 42-18 coming into tonight. He has his team at the top of the West, and has brought OKC back into the contender conversation for the first time in a very, very long time.

Captain 40k
In Lebron James’ last three games he has brought his team back from a 21 point 4th quarter deficit scoring 19 in the final 12 minutes against the Clippers. Dropped 31 on the Wizards, and became the first player in league history to score 40,000 points on Saturday against the Nuggets. At the age of 39, he continues to amaze, but it seems like everyone else on his team sits back in awe as well. Anthony Davis is one of the best big men in the league and there are days where he plays like it, but if the Lakers are going to have success they need guys like D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura to have a bigger role.

Lakers last game
The Lakers welcomed the Denver Nuggets to the Crypto.com Arena over the weekend in a rematch of last year’s Western Conference series in which LA suffered a 4-0 sweeping of the eventual champions. The highlight of the night was LeBron James becoming the first NBA player to score 40,000 points, but Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets crashed the party by beating the Lakers on James’ historic night. The Lakers took the early lead, but never led by more than 11 points. Once out of the halftime break, the Nuggets cut into the lead, and both teams went had their share of the lead until the final four minutes of the game. Michael Porter Jr. poured in 25, 10 and 7 on a perfect night from the field while Jokic had 35, 10 and 7 and he had some big buckets in the 13-4 run Denver went on to end the game and take the 124-114 win.

Thunder's last game
After losing to a sensational Victory Wembanyama to start their four game road trip, the Thunder went into the Phoenix and had to fend off what would have been a devastating comeback by the Suns. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 35 in the win over the Suns, and had OKC up by 24 in the third quarter, but a 33-7 run put Bradley Beal (31 points) and the Suns on top in the first few minutes of the final quarter. Despite shooting under 30% on the night from three point range, they used a 22-6 turnover advantage to take the lead back with 5:30 go and OKC got back in the win column with a 118-110 win in the desert.

We are live from LA
Hello everyone and welcome to the Crypt where the Lakers are currently on the third game of a six game home stint, but that doesn’t mean LeBron and the Lake show have been rattling off wins. In fact, their loss against the Nuggets on Saturday was their third in their last six games, and they now find themselves behind the eight ball in the race to avoid the Play-In. The Thunder have won 7 of their last 8 games to take sole possession of the top seed in the conference, and now we will have to see how they do as the pace setters in the West. LA is the more desperate, but the Thunder will be just as eager to win tonight trying to stay atop the West as we continue the sprint to the finish line.
