Western Conference picture
Taking a look at the Western Conference we see things tightening up at the top of the table. The Thunder are in the one seed right now, holding off the Nuggets who are half game behind them with a record of 45-20. The Timberwolves aren’t far off pace, trailing by just 1.5 games but it’s going to be tough to stay in the mix without KAT for what will most likely be a large portion of the rest of the regular season, if not all of it. The Clippers are recovering from a bit of a slump after the All-Star break, and are currently 3.5 games back of OKC. They are 2.5 games ahead of the Pelicans for the fourth and final home court seed in the first round of the playoffs, and five games ahead of the Mavs who are in Play-In position in 8th place. Both of these teams will have their eyes set on a top seed heading into the playoffs, but know that it won’t take much to slide down the standings and put themselves in a tough spot entering the post season.
ANT Man's MVP case
With no Karl-Anthony Towns, the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to need their biggest star to carry them even more until the big man comes back. “Ant-Man” should be in the MVP conversation if he isn’t already. He is averaging 26.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5 assists a game, and has had the T’wolves at the top of the West for most of the season. If he is able to carry his team without KAT, it would be an monumental achievement worthy of putting his name in the mix with Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Harden has full cast tonight
The LA Clippers have had to deal with injuries to their stars for the last few years, and it’s derailed their chances to make a run for the title. Last game LA was without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, which puts the brunt of the burden on James Harden. Harden is obviously more effective when he has PG and Kawhi at his disposal, but he can still put up 40 in a game, and when he’s not scoring he’s one of the best passers in the game. He’s averaging 8.3 dishes a game, to go along with his 17.5 ppg. Tonight he will be with PG and Kawhi which will be huge as the Clips try to even the tiebreak with the T’Wolves.
T'Wolves last game
Minnesota played their third game of a six game road trip right here from Crypto.com Arena as Anthony Edwards and company took on LeBron James and the Lakers. With Karl-Anthony Towns out for a third straight game it was up to Anthony Edwards to carry the brunt of the load, but with their top big man out Anthony Davis had a field day. The Lakers center had 27 points, 25 rebounds, and seven steals, but it wasn’t until the final quarter that LA pulled away. Davis and the rest of the Lake show kept Minnesota to just 17 fourth quarter points, and limited Edwards to 25 points on the night as LA got a much needed win at home.
Clippers last game
Over the weekend, the Clippers welcomed the refurbished Milwaukee Bucks that have been rolling since the All-Star break. It was a tight game for all 48 minutes. It was a single digit lead for most of the night as both teams exchanged leads throughout the four quarters. LA was without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, which left space for Norman Powell to explode off the bench with 26 points, but Damian Lillard was saving the best for late in the game. He had 16 of his 35 in the final quarter and helped the Bucks pull away in the last few minutes of the game to hand the Clippers the loss at home.
We are live from LA
