Timberwolves starters

Thunder's starters
This is the Thunder's first five. Coach Daginaul is going with Dort, Wallace, Holmgren, Hartenstein and of course SGA. They look for win No.18 in their opening 19 and this is how OKC starts the night.

J-Dub still sidelined
The scariest thing about the Thunder’s start is they are going all of this without their second best player. Jalen Williams has been out all season with a wrist injury and when they get him back, this team will become even stronger and deeper. Last year, he went for 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game, and even without those numbers on the court, the Thunder have been unstoppable. There is no timetable for J-Dub’s return but he had a follow up wrist procedure on Halloween and was set to be reevaluated last week. He is still on the sideline, but his returning is nearing.

Thunder chasing back to back
Dynasties used to be a thing in the NBA. That seems to be a trend that has disappeared over the last decade or so. The super teams of yesteryear have disappeared as the CBA has brought parity to the league, but maybe just maybe this OKC team is on the verge of building the next dynasty in the NBA. It’s still way to early to speculate but after a 17-1 start to the season, they given us reason to believe. The Warriors were the last ones to repeat when they went back to back in 2017 and 2018. Great drafting and some key trades has turned this once bottom feeder team into a potential powerhouse that could be around for a very very long time.

Best starts in history
While the Thunder’s start to the season has been incredible, it’s not the best start to a season we have ever seen. In fact the Cleveland Cavaliers started last season 15-0 to tie the Houston Rockets of 93/94 and the Washington Capitols of the 1948/49. That’s a far cry from the record setting season of the Golden State Warriors who went 24-0 to start the 2015/16 season. They didn’t lose a game until mid December and dropped their second game of the season on New Years Eve. The Thunder have their work cut out for them if they are going to equal or surpass the Warriors all time record of 73-9.

Western Conference standings
Having an early season look at the Western Conference standings we see the Thunder at the top of the table with just one loss after 18 games. They have the Lakers and the Nuggets behind them with four losses and a little farther down the standings sit the Timberwolves in 7th place. It’s still very early in the season but we know how some of these games in November could have a big impact on tie breakers later in the year.
Star watch: T’Wolves
We already know that Anthony Edwards doesn’t want to be the new face of the league, but in matchups like tonight’s where he goes up against one of the top players in the league, he can’t avoid being put into that conversation. Edwards has had to miss a few games with a injury early in the season, but he is back and coming off a season high 43 points. He’s averaging 28.4 points, 4.7 rebound and 4 assists per game. This is a better team than their record shows, and AE is the driving force when they are playing well. Tonight he’s got to be sensational against SGA.

Star watch: Thunder
The reigning MVP is having another MVP type season this season but he comes into the game against the Wolves questionable with an illness. It’s a big game and SGA is one of the few stars in the league who doesn’t worry about load management. He is averaging 32.2 points a game, 4.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists per outing which are just about the same exact numbers he put up last year. Maybe most impressively is that he has played in all 18 of the Thunder’s games and that’s why they are 17-1.

Timberwolves last game
For the second straight game, the Timberwolves collapsed in the fourth quarter and lost in incredible fashion. Despite 43 points from Anthony Edwards, and leading by 8 points with under 3:00 to go, they gave up a 10-2 run to force the Wolves to overtime and the Kings were able to come up with a big win, just their 5th of the year as Minnesota dropped to 10-7.

Thunder’s last game
The Thunder hosted the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night and avenged their only loss of the season. They made sure to jump all over the Blazers early in the game, and had a 21 point lead at the end of the first quarter. SGA played just 3 quarters, but dropped 37 points, and the Thunder shot over 50% from the field as they cruised to an easy win and enjoyed the last couple of days off.
