Update:

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has missed the past 12 games with injury, but he appears on track to return for Saturday night’s NBA Cup semifinal against the Oklahoma City Thunder, December 13.

Wembanyama suffered a calf strain in the Spurs’ game against the Golden State Warriors on November 14. Despite the absence of their franchise player, the Spurs have gone 9–3 during that stretch and currently sit fifth in the Western Conference.

Johnson hints at Wembanyama return

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said there was a strong chance of Wembanyama returning when he spoke to reporters on Wednesday.

“He had a very good day today,” Johnson said. “He had a good intent day this morning, and we’ll have to see how he responds and reacts tomorrow.”

The Spurs later upgraded Wembanyama to probable on Friday’s injury report.

Wembanyama stats so far

Through the first 12 games of the season, Wembanyama averaged 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.6 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game.
