This past Father’s Day was not at all an enjoyable one for the former NBA star and his family and for a terrible reason.

Vince Carter’s home robbed on Father’s Day

According to a report from the Atlanta Police Department, Vince Carter’s house was burglarized while his wife and children hid in a closet on Father’s Day. It is understood that Carter himself was not at home at the time of the burglary. The former Toronto Raptors star’s wife Sondi allegedly informed police that she was in a bed with her two sons, when she heard loud noises coming from the front of the house. She went on to explain that at that point she took her children and hid in the bedroom closet before she called 911 as well as texted a nearby off-duty officer.

What happened during the robbery of Vince Carter’s house?

After gaining entry to Carter’s home, it appears that the suspects searched throughout the home before fleeing the scene when the aforementioned off-duty officer arrived. The officer said she saw an unidentified Black male wearing all black clothing and a mask running on foot. The officer disclosed that the individual proceeded to jump into a black SUV, at which point he lost sight of the vehicle as it sped away.

As per reports, once more officers arrived on the scene in response to the 911 call, they found a large number of $100 bills - counted at $16,100 scpecifically - just outside of the house. They also found two firearms: golden Desert Eagle in a gun case and a black Glock 26 with an extended magazine. The Desert Eagle was later determined to be the private proper of Carter, while the Glock is believed to be owned by the suspect involved. Carter himself apparently told police that the money they found was only a portion of more than $100,000 that was stored in a bag - which was taken - in the closet of the master bedroom.

Is Vince Carter’s family fine and what happens now?

According to police, the suspects appear to have entered the house by breaking through a first-floor window. It is also understood that one of them left a fingerprint on a side door which they used to escape the scene of the crime. Surveillance videos from the property have also been submitted to police, but it is understood that none of the cameras used were facing the street. The one positive in the situation is the fact that reports indicate no member of Carter’s family was harmed during the ordeal.
