Warriors 99 - 109 Mavericks summary, stats, scores and highlights | NBA
The Mavs are now neck and neck with the Suns and the Kings in the 6 seed. They have 17 games to go this season and will have their work cut out if they are going to avoid the Play-In. It's going to get even tough for the Warriors who dropped tonight's game and don't know how long Steph Curry is going to be out, although he's expected to make a return to practice on Friday. The Warriors are in 10th and currently four games back of the Suns in 6th place, and are going to have difficulty catching up to all the great teams in the West.
Daniel Grafford is just two made baskets away from tying a record that has stood for decades. He has hit 33 consecutive FGs over the last couple games and if he makes two more tomorrow in OKC he will have tied Wilt Chamberlin for the most consecutive field goals made in NBA history.
Luka had a relatively quiet game by his standards as his seven game triple double streak came to an end. He finished the game with 21, 3 and 9 assists, but he will be much more happy with the win knowing that the Mavs have work to do to get into the top six in the West.
The Mavs went on a 17-2 run from the end of the first to the start of the second quarter, and even though the Warriors came close to tying the game back up, they were missing that little bit of spark that Steph Curry so often provides.
To go along with his 10 points and 6 rebounds, Daniel Gafford had 7 blocks to tie the season high for the Mavs this season. Remember last year when the biggest clutch for Dallas was their defense and rebounding? That's not the case anymore.
Kyrie has had to take a backseat as Luka lit up the stat sheet over the last seven games in which he had triple-doubles, but back home in front of the AA Center it was Irving's turn to put on a show.
The Mavs hit just 1/14 three pointers in the first half, but luckily Gafford and Lively were getting great looks around the basket with Kyrie and Luka picking the Warriors defense apart.
The Dallas Mavericks came into Wednesday night on a three game win streak and had a chance to make it four over a banged up direct rival in the chase for the 6th seed in the West. Kyrie Irving stole the show with 23, 10 and 8 assists in the 109-99 win over the Golden State Warriors.
The Mavs shot the ball terribly from the perimeter for the first three quarters but it was their big guys who came in clutch all game long. With Steph Curry or Draymond Green Golden State was bound to struggle on both ends of the court. Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively had huge games against the Warriors on Wednesday night.

Lively is another one of those guys that can play above the rim. Luka and Kyrie down mind a guy willing to run at the rim and finish off alley oops.
Can they or can't they? That's the question surrounding Luka and Kyrie in Dallas. Kyrie has 13 while Luka has 12 and five assists tonight, and they are looking pretty comfortable although that's not always the case.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM DALLAS!!!
Steve Kerr has done some shuffling to the starting five since Steph's injury. Last game the Warriors went small in San Antonio with Kevon Moody and Darymond. Tonight he switches those two out for Klay Thompson and Trayce Jackson-Davis who is joined by CP3, Kuminga and Wiggins.
Jason Kidd is going with his two stars who are still working things out on the offensive end as they continue to find a way to blend styles of play. Doncic and Irving will be joined by Washington, Jones and Gafford to get us started from the AA Center.
Warriors still waiting
Steph Curry is set to miss his third straight game with a sparined ankle tonight in Dallas. He's the top scorer and still one of the best players in the NBA, but his body is aging. He is still the most important Warrior in the Bay, and he's going to need to be around for the final stretch of the season.
Western Conference picture
Having a look at the Western Conference standings with about a month to go in the regular season we see these two teams sitting in Play-In position chasing the Suns and Pelicans in the five and six spot in the table. After their three game win streak, the Mavs are currently in 8th place, eight games back of the conference leading Nuggets and Thunder who are tied for first at 45-20. Dallis is just a game back of the Suns who hold the final automatic playoff spot, while the Warriors are 10.5 games back of Denver and OKC while trailing the Suns by three games. You wouldn’t think the Warriors would give up their 4.5 game lead over the Rockets, but if that becomes their priority then they have no chance of an automatic playoff bid.
Luka on MVP watch
Who else could we really talk about in the star watch section of pregame posts? Luka Doncic has been anything and everything for the Mavs in his seven game triple-double streak. The only problem is the Mavs are 4-3 in those games. If the Mavs had a better record, Doncic would be a much better bet to win his first MVP, but right now the Mavs are fighting to stay out of the Play-In while Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are the front runners for the award on teams that are gunning for the one seed in the West. Doncic is the well ahead of the of the pack in the scoring race, averaging 34.6 points while dishing 9.1 rebounds and 9.9 assists a game.
Jackson-Davis on the up
The Warriors are in a bit of a transition phase as their stars that led them to four titles in the last decade are starting to show signs of aging. Curry has been out with a nagging ankle injury, Klay Thompson has accepted his new role on the bench and Draymond Green adds a new grey hair to his beard collection by the day. This means there is a gradual changing of the guard happening in the Bay Area, and one of the guys at the forefront of this movement is Trayce Jackson-Davis. He has made a splash in San Fran during his rookie year, and he has done so on both ends of the floor. He D’d up Victory Wembanyama last game and Giannis Antetokounmpo last week, and his thunderous jam over Wemby shows you the kind of athleticism this kid has.
Mavs last game
Luka Doncic rattled off his seventh straight triple-double on Monday night in Chicago as the Mavs beat the Bulls with ease. Dallas exploded out of the gate, going up 44-16 at the end of the first quarter as the Mavs could take their foot off the gas pedal for the rest of the game. Luka finished the game with 27, 12 and 14 assists which broke his NBA record of 30 point triple doubles at six but more importantly for the Mavs they won their third straight which means they are keeping pace with the sixth seed in the conference.
Warriors last game
Golden State went in to San Antonio after losing the front end of a home and home series and beat the Spurs without Steph Curry. Jonathan Kuminga and Klay Thompson carried the Warriors after they got off to a slow start that saw them trail by double digits in the first quarter. Kuminga had 21 and Thompson chipped in 20 as Chris Paul got the start in place of the injured Curry and gave us visions of CP3 in his prime. GS went on a 24-4 run in the third quarter that saw them take a 14 point lead and keep a double digit cushion for the rest of the game.
