Update:

The Golden State Warriors have issued an update on the fitness of Stephen Curry after the superstar point guard hobbled from the court on Thursday night.

The Warriors came out 117-114 winners over the Toronto Raptors but Curry fell while driving for a layup late in the third quarter. Curry crashed to the floor and made a heavy landing, before being taken out of the game by coach Steve Kerr.

“He thought he might be able to come back,” Kerr said in the postmatch. “We just decided not to risk anything. Hopefully it’s not bad.”

On Friday the Warriors confirmed that Curry had undergone an MRI scan immediately after the game and was found to have suffered a pelvic contusion, but no structural damage. A team statement said: “He will not travel with the team to Atlanta this morning and will not play in tomorrow night’s game against the Hawks. He will be re-evaluated on Monday.”

How long is Stephen Curry out for?

So far, the Warriors have only ruled Curry out for the Atlanta Hawks game. The issue is not a major one and players typically return Fairly soon

Speaking to Essentially Sports, Dr. John Vasudevan put the recovery time at between one and three weeks. Curry may therefore miss a few games for the Warriors but with 12 games of the regular season remaining he should be back in time for the all-important playoff games.

So with Curry sidelined for the next few games, at least, who takes his place? There will certainly be a larger workload for players like Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga and, most notably, Jimmy Butler.

When Curry missed the game against the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this week it was Butler who stepped in to become the No. 1 offensive option for the Warriors. He led the team for points (24) and assists (10) and looks set to shoulder the point-scoring burden in Curry’s absence again in the upcoming games.
