Bam Adebayo, a member of last season’s All-Defensive first team, is one of the founding pieces of the Miami Heat in their search for an NBA championship and the franchise are not planning to let him go for anything in the world. According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Adebayo and the Heat have agreed to sign a three-year, $166 million extension that will keep the center in Miami until the end of the 2028-29 season.

Details of Adebayo’s contract extension

Currently, Adebayo is about to enter the fourth year of the five-year, $163 million extension he signed in November 2020. For the 2024-25 campaign, the Nigerian-born center will have an impact of $34.8 million on the Heat’s salary cap, according to Spotrac.

With the extension of the center, Miami guarantees having a nucleus made up of Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Jaime Jáquez Jr. until the end of the 2026-27 campaign. Jimmy Butler will be able to decide if he is a free agent at the end of the next season because he has a player option that will pay him $52.4 million.

During the 2023-24 campaign, the three-time All-Star saw action in 71 regular season games in which he racked up 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. His offensive performance increased during the postseason due to Butler’s absence which saw him hit an average of 22.6 points with 9.4 boards and 3.8 assisted baskets.

How much money has Bam Adebayo earned in the NBA?

After seven full seasons as a professional basketball player in the NBA, Adebayo has received $104.8 million. After being drafted with the 14th overall pick in the 2017 Draft, the center accepted a four-year, $14.02 million contract. The drastic change in his salary came for the 2021-22 season when he went from earning his basic rookie five million dollars to $28 million as soon as his extension took effect.

He said at the time: ““Just being able to reach this milestone and being able to generationally change my family’s life and also take care of the people around me, it’s a big deal to me.”

That November 2021 extension helped Adebayo realize one of his dreams - to buy his mother a house of her own. “To know that she’s set for life is a real stress-reliever for me,” he explained.
