What did Rams’ Jalen Ramsey say about Lakers’ LeBron James’ prospects in the NFL?
From Jerry Rice to Randy Moss himself, the Lakers icon has had some impressive comparisons, but a certain Rams player isn’t convinced.
The Lakers star was known for his prowess on the football field before he finally settled on hoop dreams, but could he have made an impact in the NFL? One Los Angeles Rams player doesn’t think so and was willing to tell basketballer to his face.
LeBron James the football player?
Though it might take you by surprise, Lakers star LeBron James was actually a top tier football recruit in his high school days. A prospect out of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Ohio, James played high school football for two years and while that was not a significant amount of time, his skills as a wide receiver led some to describe him as a “taller, slower version of Randy Moss.” Indeed, the NBA icon was even compared to the great Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers.
Of course, it would be the hardwood that James eventually chose and his four NBA championships, 18 All-NBA selections and 18 All-Star appearances seem to indicate that he decided on the right sport. Yet, there are still those that wonder whether the Lakers star could have been as dominant on the field, as we know him to be on the court. Indeed, James himself recently alluded to the idea that even some NFL teams expressed an interest in seeing him try things on for size during the 2011 NBA lockout. On the other hand, not everyone is convinced.
Rams’ Jalen Ramsey doesn’t think LeBron James has what it takes
While some used words like ‘dominant’ to describe James’ performances on the football field, there’s one present day NFL player who isn’t buying it and he’s a Super Bowl winner. Speaking on the debut episode of “TNF in The Shop,” Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey said James “has no chance” when addressing the idea of the Lakers star playing in the NFL. Ramsey didn’t stop there either, as he declared there’s no way that he’d let James “Moss” him despite his clearly sizeable frame at 6-foot-8. James on the other hand disagreed, saying he would most definitely “Moss” Ramsey.
All jokes aside, we’re going with Ramsey on this one. A three-time All-Pro, Ramsey knows what he’s talking about where the gridiron is concerned. We can admit, that James’ stats across two high school seasons were impressive with 103 catches, 2,065 yards and 23 touchdowns and we should also mention that quite a few of those plays were highlight reel worthy. On the other hand, there is no way to avoid stating the obvious: It was high school. At any rate, perhaps they could both share some perspective with each other on what their Los Angeles based teams have to do to start winning. Indeed, that’s something that’s been difficult for them of late.
