Pretti, a 37-year-old Intensive Care Unit nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, was fatally shot while being wrestled to the ground by ICE agents.
His father, Michael Pretti, told Associated Press that Alex had began taking part in protests following the shooting of Renee Good earlier this month: “He cared about people deeply and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset.”
NBA game postponed after Alex Pretti death
The death of Pretti has amplified tensions in Minneapolis, which has been targeted by ICE agents for most of the last month. The shooting at 9am on Saturday morning sparked another wave of protests across the city.
As a result the NBA has opted to postpone the regular season game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors in Minneapolis on Saturday.
ESPN reports that the game has been pushed back to 5:30pm ET on Sunday, with the potential to move it again to Monday evening if required. The shooting took place around 2 miles south of the Timberwolves’ Target Center home.
