The Golden State Warriors have been dealt an off-court blow, with reports indicating that one of their players has been named in a rape related civil lawsuit.

Warriors address Anthony Lamb rape accusation

According to recent reports, Golden State Warriors forward Anthony Lamb has been accused of rape in a civil lawsuit filed against the University of Vermont by three former students. The students allege that the school showed a “deliberate indifference” to “student-on-student harassment and sexual assault.” It’s important to note, that Lamb is not a defendant in the lawsuit. The Warriors of course, released a state about the situation:

“Anthony is not a defendant in this recent lawsuit and, to our knowledge, he has never been charged with any wrongdoing in any legal case. Prior to signing Anthony in September, we did our due diligence with the NBA and his prior teams, as we do with all players. If any new information comes to light, we will certainly evaluate it and act accordingly.” The statement echoes the words of Warriors general manager Bob Myers, who previously addressed anonymous allegations against Lamb on social media, following his acquisition back on October 16th. “We checked with the NBA, we checked with the two teams that had prior signed him and didn’t hear anything as far as official charges or anything like that,” Myers said. “It’s tough because we take that very seriously.”

What has Anthony Lamb said about the accusations?

Alongside the Warriors statement, Lamb himself offered a comment of his own, indicating that he was in no way guilty of any wrong doing while denying Ware’s account. “The allegations made against me in 2019 that have recently resurfaced are patently false,” his statement says. “I have always been fully cooperative regarding the alleged incident, and have welcomed any investigation into the matter. Simply put, I have never committed sexual assault.

What do we know about the lawsuit involving Anthony Lamb?

Where the lawsuit is concerned, Kendall Ware, a former swimmer at Vermont, accused Lamb of raping her at an off-campus party. Ware reported the rape, as well as two other incidents involving Lamb, to the school’s Title IX office, however, she alleges that her complaints were mishandled. Ware had previously spoken publicly about her experience, though at the time she declined to publicly name Lamb.

“I was continuously misinformed and I truly don’t think UVM - the athletic department specifically - wanted me to do the formal investigation because he would’ve been found responsible,” Ware said in an interview on October 3rd. “I was 19. It’s not something you are expecting to navigate at that age, especially when people who are supposed to be protecting you and having your best interests at heart aren’t doing that and are giving you the wrong information over and over again.” Lamb, who played for Vermont between 2016 and 2020 went undrafted. He would later spend time with the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs in addition to a number of G League affiliates, before finally joining the Warriors.
